hummmm it would appear that the top of the dash kind of has a well, 'grey/black' ish tint to it, not a straight black. back to the drawing board |

Hiya skills,
I mistakenly painted my steering column tube L43 Gray/Black. Ooops! It is definitely the wrong color in the dash area. As a result I'd go with L41 Black. _________________ Mike

I've been checking this out as I'm about to spray my dash, and it appears the dash is LD 43 grey black, as it is a different colour to the steering column and gear lever, which are black, not grey black. My problem now is that no one seems to stock, or know of this colour here in Australia. |

Do you have any parts that are still LD43 that you could take to an automotive paint house? Wolfsburg West sells spray cans of LD43. What I did was use the spray can to spray out the color on a piece of paper. I then took the paper to an automotive paint store. They had lots of color chips and we found a spot on match. They mixed it up and it was a perfect match.
They were NOT able to mix it by that paint code though. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I don't have anything painted still, as it all went to the sand blasters! Hopefully I might be able to get a hold of some from W/West and do what you did to match the colour, thats if I can get it shipped here. Thanks for the tip. |

Well, if the paint is available in a spray can from WW, why not just use that?
Is this the stuff? They call it L43, not LD43.

It's a very soft paint which is typical of spray paint. When you get it mixed, the hardner and reducer makes it much harder and durable. I used a mid range quality Sherman Williams paint. It was SSOO much nicer and harder when I sprayed my interior parts. It lays out beatifully. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Just got back from my painter, and he has just updated his whole paint system, and now VW L43 grey black comes up on his system, and it's the right colour, just might have to add a tiny amount of matting agent so it's not too glossy. Otherwise, I'm very happy. |

Could you please share the paint manufacturer's name and their code for this L43 paint? You should see this info on the can. |

I had my dash sandblasted and powder coated in "black watered silk" finish and it came up almost identical to original. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

The only thing that I could find for L43 was this.
Porsche, Gray Black, 7A1, PPG 925446
Without having them next to each other. This looks like a good match to my 70 dash, but not as glossy. There does appear to be gloss, in my dash.
Grey Black Car
When the paint code is discovered. It should be listed here as well.

I hate to say it gentlemen but you are pissing in the wind when it comes to matching paint codes with current paint distributors. I have been through this multiple times. The computer cameras are dog shit. Don't waste your time....buy a spray bomb from WW spray it on piece of metal and make the guys selling you the paint get it right. Some people are willing to spend serious money on people like US who love our Cult Vehicles. WW is one of them. |

I find that untrue. sikkens has a killer computer system, plus a color map that will blow your mind.
the other issues most people have is just being some walk in customer. most people don't want to waste the time to do this work and have a customer say 115.00 for a pint of paint?!?!
so, my best advice to joe public would be:
- go into the paint store. treat help with respect
- explain you know they are doing you a favor, and let them know you expect to pay through the ass for the paint (shit's expensive)
-do as much of your own legwork as possible. don't let the counter guy think you're wasting his time.
I have never had an issue with color scanning paint _________________
