Anyone here taking the CHANTIX pills to help them quit?
I have started the program and tomorrow will be my first
day not to smoke. Any success tips will be appreciated.

I tried the patches before. Gave me very vivid, bizzare dreams that I thought were real and would wake me up in a panic every night. Gave it a week of that and I was done with them. Never tried another 'product' to help me quit since.

I ended up quiting cold turkey in the winter. It was bitter cold and I was tired of sitting outside for a smoke. 10 years of smoking and done right there. It was tough the first couple months, but now a few years later I can't stand the smell of cigarettes. I'd say it's out of my system now.

Biggest thing is, you have to actually want to quit. Not "want to quit because you know it's bad for you" or other reasons. You have to actually be 'done' with it.

I am done with it for sure .I have smoked for 27 years and I am tired of
it controlling me . I am sick of having the smokers hack ,and all the other stuff that come with it. Its hard to breath sometimes .Thats due to smoking and being out of shape. I am sure its going to be tough but I am ready.

I quit the hard way awhile back. I know that it varies from person to person. For me, it was frustrating at first, but you get over it eventually and you feel REAL good once you know you're over the top. I've heard that it never really goes away, but you only think about it once in a long while.

Its one of the smartest things you can do.

Read up on it, though. One of the hardest things is that you tend to associate smoking with certain activities or times of the day, and there are tricks to deal with that. You can even participate in free studies and get free support. Here's a good place to start:

http://www.smokefree.gov/

Good luck!

COLD TURKEY... only way to fly... er try to fly....

I made it stick near a year ago Dec 21 2007.

I had cold turkey'd it once before in 02- 03 for 13 months that time too...

MIND OVER MATTER... it can be done....

Fuck the baby steps meds and patches... just do it... eat better, take some Niacin and some other good vitamins to help flush the toxins out faster and be done with it!

If I can give up near 2 pack a day YOU CAN TOO

Cold turkey is the most effective way to quit. You just have to man up and stop. You can not wean your way off smokes, or gradually quit.

All the other stuff is just a bunch of money making scams.

I quit cold turkey back in '02, after a heart attack. I had smoked for over 45 years.
No patches, no pills, I just quit.
One thing that did help me a little, at work, was that I still went on coffee break with the smokers. Got a little hit of that second hand smoke.

Same here. 12/24/06

I tried pills, patches, gum, and all. You just have to decide and do it. I basically made a promise to myself that I wouldn't go back and each day I asked myself if going back on my word was worth it.

Kind of an honor thing I guess. I kept my word.

Add up all the money you save too... even at 5 bucks a pack ( it's even more some area's)

I was just so sick of the smell, the taste, the NEED to go smoke one... the way my chest hurt when I did smoke two packs a day... all of it...fuck it ... I was tortured... it was kicking my ass... BUT I stepped up and said NO.... and like you said you make a promise to do something with the money you save and for yourself and family and health and it makes it easier to get by each day.

i quit, using the patch.
just make sure all reasons are for yourself and don't give into the lame excuses to have "just one" or "just a drag".
2 years 11 months and 7 days, but who is counting...heh.
there are days i still want one but i won't.
oh yeah,..the 60 lbs i packed on isn't good but it's better then smoking.
working in the lbs now.

oh yeah,.. i made sure i told all my friends, coworkers and such so if i went back on my word about quiting, i'd look like an asshole.

I smoked for 12 years and quit with the nicotine gum. After a month of the gum I weaned off it and replaced the nicotine gum with regular gum. It's been 2 years now and I have no desire to smoke again. As Keith mentioned I was fed up with the cost of the cigs, my lungs hurting and BEING ADDICTED.

One word of advice....Don't EVER think you can quit, have it licked and "just have one cig for old time sake". I know more people who quit for over a year and thought they had it beat only to have one cig and be right back to buying packs again.

Good luck and it's really not that hard. As mentioned above, you have to be done with them to have success.

Yeah, with not quite a year gone by this time I know I have to keep my "guard up" especially around the holiday's when I might actually have to interact with people who smoke at some gatherings LOL...

I think it did help that I am not in my "old element"/ work environment when I did quit this time... ( being solo in my own shop now makes it "my turff" ) that is what dragged me back in way back in 03... work related stress and circumstance/and poor choice on my part to try and get away with "just a smoke here or there" led me to toss away more time than I have NOW....

BE strong... that 's what it takes... hell even today when I was in the car pissed off about something I was thinking of stopping for a pack when I got gas... OLD HABBITS DIE HARD. Shocked

Stroke of midnight, 1996. Put out my last one after 2 PPD for 21 years. Haven't touched another one since.

Set a date to quit.
Tell yourself over and over that's gonna be the last time you smoke. Ever.

For me, I talked to the damn things. I would argue that they WERE NOT stronger than I was. No way they could beat me. And so on. Sounds corny and stupid, but it worked.

Do whatever you need to do. No matter what it is, most likely it'll be less harmful than smoking.

Good luck. Stay strong. You're stronger than a damn weed in a piece of paper.

It's too bad that locking threads doesn't burn more calories--you'd look like Lance Armstrong! Congratulations on quitting. I remember when you decided to do it.

You might need to wait until you get sick and can't smoke. When your sick just tell yourself you don't smoke anymore. It worked with me. 10 years now.

I need to quit. I quit for a year once, was broke, bought a pack, argued with myself, took two out, threw the pack out of the car. I was good for a year or so

stress at work is the issue for me right now. I'm so used to the up and down stress at work and the ability to go outside for a minute, smoke and calm down. I suppose I should just go for a walk instead.

quitting cold turkey last time was hard. I said a lot of shit I shouldn't have and hurt a lot of people. I was a fucking asshole. I'm trying to cut back right now, and so far so good
