i bought a box of random vw parts in a box for $50, got some baby webers in great shape out of it some nice dual port heads, and other random stuff but came across this piece, what is it, i have no clue. probably off some late model possibly?

I don't know what it is called, but the part is from a Solex carb that attaches off to the side of it.
Sorry don't know the model of Solex, maybe a 34 pict?
Hopefully a carb expert will chime in. _________________ When you turn it on, does it return the favor?

Smog part. I think they started using those in 73 or 74. |

It is a throttle positioner, added around '70 or so, for smog control. That arm held the throttle open even after you took your foot off the gas (exciting coming up to stoplights!). |

Bingo! later models has a two-piece unit that did the same thing.
By now the diaphragm is probably bad, and they were a PITA even when new. You might place an ad in the classified; maybe someone really wants a vintage engine look? |

thanks, i knew it something to do with the carb, but i wasnt sure what the diaphragm is still good. all the parts i got are in really good shape, cant beat that for $50 _________________ ✠Miklo✠

It was used to slow the closing of the butterfly so all the gas would be burned. Set up right you can't tell the difference. |
