I have a 750 yamaha front end on my trike and someone has suggested that I put a steering damper on it. I have not had this trike above 35 yet but there is no shaking of the front end. Any thoughts? _________________ Ride it like you built it! |

I've never heard of that. Bikes don't need them, why would trikes? Post the question at http://btw-trikers.org/uploads/home.php and see what they say - the folks here really aren't triker oriented. |

Well I build trikes and I am a member of BTW so to answer your question, NO you don't need a damper unless your just all out of line, bent rims, wrong rake and trail etc. If you are then you need to address those points first. When it's right and straight you wont need one. Why do YOU think you need one??

Nice trike. Mine is just a rat trike, so far. It didn't even want to run today. Fuel problems and back firing. Fresh start in the am with my handy lil tool kit. LOL Maybe get some miles on it in the afternoon.
Someone told me that after seeing my trike. I really hadn't even thought about it. My front end seems to be okay. I have not had it up to high speeds yet but at 35 there is no shimmy or shaking going on.
I have tried to upload photo's but don't seem to be able to. _________________ Ride it like you built it! |

I use Photobucket and after a few trial and error attempts I can post pics with the best of 'em. Maybe not as fast but they're there. Take your time and figure it out or ask questions about it, I'll help.
All home made VW powered trikes are rat trikes, some just look better than others. Take your time and think "Safety First". I have seen dampener's used on drag bikes but that's all. I've seen some trikers use them until they were instructed on how to find and fix their problem and don't use them any more. Get up some pics so we can see what you have.

Nope. When you do it again hit preview first to see if it went through the way you wanted.

There ya go !!! Looks sturdy enough. You might want to think about adding fenders to keep the dirt, pebbles and water off of you. If your trail is between 1" and 2"s you wont need a dampner. Good luck with it and Have Fun !!!
