One update to my old post quoted above. The #3 fuse was flipped in the last version of the fuse/rely panel so the wire from the aux battery would plug into the top leg hole in the later panel. Best to measure the voltage on the 2 leg holes with the fuse out. One hole should be constant 12 volts from starting battery. Plug the aux battery powered wire into the other hole.
The later panel is from 90/91 vans, though either version panel could be installed in any 86-91 van.

How does this method with the male connector on fuse #3 work for a 1985 Vanagon with the old school ceramic straight fuses? _________________ 85 Westy

Man that's a drag. I wonder if there is a way to attach a female end onto one of the "male" ends on the fuse box??
