This was taken in Gaithersburg on the Herbie Cruise.

I was thinking the retro Mcdonalds would be cooler & easier to find for those who have never been there. Also more parking around that area. And closer to your house . |
I'm not opposed to that. You're right, parking was a thought I didn't consider. The McDonalds has a lot more of it. Perhaps we should hold it there.

That map gets you almost to the McDonalds. It's on the west side of Route 9. It wasn't yet built when this satellite image was taken. It's across the road from the existing shopping center. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Same one. That is Warwagens member Brian Caron aka "B". The main man behind our show "Simple Transport" .Born with a mic in one hand and a bike under his feet, able to leap triple jumps in a single leap . BTW Ole yeller got a ticket on that cruise from a stoplight camera.
Whitcomb, I stopped by your house yesterday at lunch but no one was there. You work around Ranson?
Also to all those not familiar this Mcdonalds is right off route 9 cant miss it .Dual arches on the sides just like the sixties. _________________ " I'm a motovational speaker ....and I LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!"

I have been keeping up with this thread and am interested in attending. I am picking up a '67 fastback this weekend and would love to bring it.
I guess I am a little confused about the date, time, and location of this meet. |
I'd like to see that '56 ghia. There is a guy around Ranson who drives a '69 fasty. But have yet to run him down to talk. _________________ " I'm a motovational speaker ....and I LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!"

I think he lives in Shannondale. I used to live up there, just off the lake, and I would see him drive by on his way home quite often. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

This McDonalds in brand new. Maybe 2 months old. It's across the road from the new Home Depot and Weis. If you follow old Route 9 till it ends, then get on the Bypass it's the 1st exit. Can't miss it. It's one of those old style ones with the arches on the side of the building.
Here is a link to it:

The date is March 14th, and every 2nd Sat of the month until the weather turns to crap again. It starts at 5-6pm, and I'm thinking the Dairy Queen in Ranson. It's on Mildred Street. I was also thinking of having everyone meet at my house before the cruise, get to know each other, work on any cars that need help, etc.
Perhaps we can make a whole weekend out of it for the people who camp. Dairy Queen in Ranson one day, and the Sonic in Winchester the next? I'd really like to meet some other people who have successfully started thier own VW club, and start or join one in this area.
BTW fastbacks are really cool... I've always wanted one. 67 is the best year too. |
Sounds good! I will try to get some of our club members, the VWCruisers, to come out and atttend. I will def try to make it though. I applaud you for getting out there and trying to get a meet/club started. It's not easy as we have seen with the trials and tribulations of getting our own club started but it is worth it in the end. We have about 50 or so members with only about 10-20 members who actively attend functions but we have a good time when we all hang out. That's all that matters in the end.
Yeah I have always wanted a type III. I missed out on a really nice 66 squareback a few years back and was not going to let this one get away! _________________ Jeff

I'd like to see it again too!! haha I sold it last November to a guy out in Arizona. I really miss that car. I really REALLY didn't want to sell that car but priorities in my life changed and buying a house in our area while the prices are low won out over keeping the ghia. Maybe one day I will find another one......riiiiight? _________________ Jeff

That's the McDonalds with my Bug in front of it.
Also a black and white version.
Would be cooler with a 50's or 60's car. My 72 is a little new for a black and white pic. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

It's where Mark1VWs has his parts cars at. Check it out. Only 10 minutes out of the way and worth the trip. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I have talked to some of my club members about attending and they were all stoked about it. We are going to spread the word and try to get as many people/cars to come out as we can. Should be a fun time! _________________ Jeff

A guy emailed me about bringing his blown v8 pro street bug. He was worried that he might not be welcomed. I told him although vw's have there clicks like any other cars . We vw folk are more accepting than most. _________________ " I'm a motovational speaker ....and I LIVE IN A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!"
