Hey just wondering what this muffler goes to? I gave the guy 10$ for it, but come to find out the exhaust was on the wrong side. The apron on my bus has the hole on the left. I have the correct one now but just wondering so I can sell it.
Thanks

Not baywindow, what's it measure across the flanges? 40hp or 15-1600? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

It definetly fits a 1600, because I actually put it on. Then I went to put the apron on and noticed the exhaust hole on the wrong side! |

Early bays all have the apron cutout on the left, just like a splitty, the only difference is the actual tailpipe tip is flat instead of tweaked down to clear the bumper.

Really? From the classifieds:
I've seen mufflers like the one mentioned installed on UK market late (73-79) bays with 1600's. |

Dammit you're right Mike, been mixing too many models lately and they are all blurring together , but the bay pipe usually comes out the left side. I wonder why the outlet moved on the later 1600 ones if that is what it's for? longer tailpipe for more torque? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'm betting it was a mix-up in the manufacturing process. Something like how the company that makes "pringles" potato chips was a tennis ball company that got a wrong shipment... |

Pretty close, but the pipe is still on the wrong hole ?
http://www.serial-kombi.com/volkswagen-combi-bay-w...35608.html
I'd say late bay like Mike said, and yes, probably UK spec... Because euro non-UK spec late bays (1600) have a one piece pipe, unlike the '71 and earlier. Mactraveler, what's the name on the muffler ? Ernst ? Leistritz ? _________________ 1976 181/Thing, 1967 fastback, 1973 squareback, 1964 microbus, 1967 Double Cab, 1969 westfalia (currently under resto), 1972 LM1C dune buggy, 1974 jean's bug, 1974 1303 (super beetle, currently under reassembly after new paint). |

What I can make out on this muffler, is that it is a Leistritz and made in West Germany. This is what it says on it.....
kpz KBA 20025
Made in W.-Germany
B Nr 761.0666 4 88
VW22-28

I heard those were for industrial engines.
I've seen one from time to time. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
