Well, I just looked up the Ghia VIN number page, which is not very useful though, it has limited data and the engines listed the Standard model 36HP. If you look at the Bug VIN page though, which has better engine production number data - your 7133880 engine looks to be made at the beginning of December, 1962.

Now for the chassis number, the Ghia page says in August it was at 4846836 and in December it was up to 5199980. Yours being 5041626, that falls right between those, which would be like October or November, so I'm guessing your engine might not quite match. I'm not too terribly knowledgeable about Ghia production though, so maybe it is correct. But it's pretty rare to find the original engine in any model of old VW.

Have you thought about getting a "Birth Certficate" from VW? I guess nowadays, they'll only include the engine number on it if you supply yours first, and if it matches.

The VIN number pages are here, by the way:

So you want to hot rod it a little bit? This "vintage speed" forum is pretty new, and there's a difference between using "old-school" parts and what you can do with new parts, like the relatively easy modification of buying and installing a new set of big-bore pistons and cylinders to change the engine size from 1192cc up to 1385cc. (I say "relatively" because of some clearancing is involvled with the kits sold currently, otherwise they just bolt on)

Here's a few informational and performance threads from the Beetle Forum, which predate this forum, about the 40HP engine:

Here's one regarding the cylinder heads, important that you know about this on a 40HP.
