PostPosted: Sun Nov 30, 2008 8:14 pm    Post subject: Online Baywindow Parts Books FAQ Reply with quote

I finally got around to posting my baywindow parts books online.

ratwell.com has been mirroring just the pictures for a long time, which is great as they are super clear. There are versions with part numbers on some German sites that are, well, in German and tough to read. There is also vagcat.com, and ETKA.

None really had an option to link to the pages with the part numbers, had a full document to download and print to keep in the garage or had all the part numbers as some got NLA'd over time.

As such I've posted some files at the links below in a similar fashion to the online splitwindow bus parts book at:

http://oacdp.freeweb7.com/5867part.html

Is this the end all beat all? No, but its another source for information in a linkable/downloadable format until someone else comes out with something better.

My HTML skills stopped progressing in 1995 or so, and the pages look the part. Some of the files/pictures are rather large in size, so hopefully my hosting site won't explode. Also note that some of the pics, especially the Late Baywindow ones, will look unreadable on the pages, and they in fact are. As they were scanned in from such a small source the text is ultra small. You'll need to "click to enlarge" and zoom in to see anything actually readable.

Early Baywindow:
This is a copy of the paper parts books the dealers used to keep and runs through 1973 or so. I have a handful of the supplements that came out over the years and they are generally included "in-line".

Link at:
http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/EarlyBaywindow/EarlyBay-Main.html

Late Baywindow:
Thie is a copy of the microfiche VW started using later on in '74 or so (I think). This will contain both early and late baywindow parts and information. The version I have and scanned is pretty scratchy, but still readable for the most part. Also, my version is from around 1994 or so and by then some parts were NLA'd; so some may not appear (similar to ETKA). If anyone has a less scratched or earlier version (like maybe right at the end of bay production?) I'd be more than willing to scan it in to replace what is there currently.

I've got a bunch of other related microfiches I hope to get online at some point as well. (AC Vanagon, 411/412, etc)

Enjoy....

Thanks for taking the time to do all this.

I did find an error already. Brake section; looks like this page was not unfolded prior to scanning.

See ya when it warms up again in the spring.

I bookmarked this thread. I'm sure it will come in handy.

Thanks!

There must be a computer program that can pull just the written text and not the scratches and clear up the documents.

Its actually all there, but this brings up something else I should mention. If you've never seen the actual parts books (I know you have Nick, but for others), there are some fold out pages. In order to keep things the same size and able to print on a normal 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper, that one page (double sided) gets turned in to 4 pictures; 2 per each side of the original page. In addition, I had to put in some of the "blank pages" to keep the double sided printing ability.

So in your example, the picture that looks like it got cut off actually spans the pages
http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/EarlyBaywindow/6-0121a.jpg
and
http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/EarlyBaywindow/6-012b.jpg

and
the picture you noted is actually the other (blank) half of the page
http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/EarlyBaywindow/6-011.jpg

The pages , folded out, would look like this:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Hope that helps for navigation and what not.

If anyone finds any errors, please, let me know.

When its warm? Hell, I'm ready to throw on some snow tires and hit the pine barrens as soon as we get a few inches. Wink

I'm sure there is, but the text reader I tried to use didn't like those scans at all.

I sincerely give you an A for effort, but those in the late bus category are seriously hard to read. As someone with less than stellar eyesight, I cannot use those.

Yea, I have to open the pics and zoom in to read them; otherwise its all just a blur.

Thanks for all the hard work. As for the hard to read pages, Microsoft has an awesome little magnifier that you can download from XP Powertoys. Peace!

This is great. I was just looking for an exploded view last night. Great timing.

I can't edit my first post, but for future reference this is the German site mentioned there. I should have noted it in the first place.

http://vwbus2.dyndns.org/bulli/michaelk/vw_bus_d/et_nr.htm

I have a bay westy parts book and a much cleaner copy of the late fiche to get up soon, I just need to upload them.

Hey Matt, did you ever get around to scanning and uploading the cleaner late Bay fiche copies? They're very useful articles!

No they are still sitting in a brown envelope on my desk. I really should get on it.

I did however scan in the Westfalia parts books (which are pretty clean). I'll try to get them up soon.

I'm fairly certain 4 years equals "soon".

Anyway, I finally uploaded the microfiche for the westy camper interiors. Its missing a page I accidentally forgot to scan; but I thought I'd post it up in the mean time anyway. Look for an update for that missing page in roughly another 4 years.

http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/BaywindowCamper/BaywindowCamper-Main.html

I have the earlier paper version also scanned in, that'll get up eventually.
