|
|
Hi there,
Yes, I searched.
I have 2 vans, and the rear wiper functionality is different between them.
On my '84, the wiper stalk forwards does 2-3 wipes of the rear wiper, and sprays washing fluid if I hold it there. After the 2-3 wipes, the rear wiper stops.
On my wife's '90, the same thing happens, BUT the rear wiper remains cycling every ~10 seconds until I push the stalk forward again to cancel it.
I want my '84 to have the same functionality as the '90 (since it's a PITA to keep hitting the switch every few minutes in heavy rain), but I'm curious; maybe it does already and my relay is just buggered. Because quite a lot changed between '84 and '90, does anybody know if VW added the rear wiper cycling function?
Conversely, does anyone have an '84 that has a rear wiper that remains cycling until canceled? I only have mine as a reference point.
No, I haven't tried swapping relays yet. I'm hoping someone already knows this before I pull apart the fuse box
Thanks!

My '87 Westy behaves like your '90, so this may help narrow it down a bit. Any contributors with earlier years than '87 doing this? |

Thanks, campism.
The p/n from all years is the same:

Soooo, I'm going to assume mine's bad and replace it.

Mine is an 84 but I can't recall for sure but isn't there 2 settings for the rear wiper? Setting for washer stops wiping after 3 passes(washer fluid is wiped clean) and a second setting for continuous (raining)? _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

Settings? Set where? There's just the wiper stalk on mine.
Thanks,

For posterity:
The '84 (Canadian model, unsure about the American version) doesn't have the intermittent rear wiper functionality. Or, at least, mine didn't. The relay was a different p/n from the one listed above. I swapped it for the correct one, and now it works as expected (push once, wipes about every 10 seconds. Push again to cancel. Hold to wash).
