Don't suppose anyone has a pdf copy of the install instructions for the following TMI seat covers?

http://tinyurl.com/5wjasp

I've found a couple of good tutorials (eg http://www.aircooledtech.com/front_upholstery/) but am just curious what TMI say about installation...

Thanks,

--Steve

They said they couldn't help me as I didn't purchase the covers from an authorized dealer. I also chatted "live" with a representative from JC Whitney - they said they couldn't supply the instructions either.

Hence the request here on the forum....

Well there ya go. Nice public relations. Gives me a warm fuzzy for companies like this. I understand that the covers weren't purchase through an"authorized" dealer, but would it hurt to help a potential future customer out? So when you get the brush off from companies like this, does it make you want to buy their product in the future, or maybe use a competitor?

I must admit I was kind of surprised with the response. But then again, I didn't purchase the covers from them directly, so it was probably easier to say "Sorry, can't help you".

But TMI did make them, right? And wouldn't they what them to look good in your vehicle? You'd think so.

What would it take to provide you with instructions... sheesh!

Yes, they did. Their TMI labels are on the inside of the covers...

you might also try just going to a local upholstery person, who just might show you some tips . My partner went to a local community college upholstery class on weekends, did some seats for a 64 bus, and we've done a number of others now as well

Ya know - I got a TMI set for my 65 and I don't seem to recall there being any instructions included. I guess just like most other parts, it is assumed that you know how to install them. About the only things I ever got instructions for where a couple things I bought from aircooled.net.

I've mentioned this here numerous times but in threads where people have been replacing the seat pads. If you buy your pads from Wolfsburg West they include a real nice DVD they made showing how to replace your pads and covers, really well done. The manufacturer of the seat cover is essentially irrelevant as installation will be the same whether you use TMI, Sewfine or whoever. Give them a call and maybe they will sell you their DVD for a couple of bucks plus shipping.

Sewfine gave us instructions with their different products. They were also top quality covers, cushions, panels, carpeting and headliner. Not surprised with what you ran into with TMI. Kinda like you don't pay much and you don't get much. When we needed upholstery we considered TMI but the quality and workmanship was so much less. Even with good instructions the stuff might not end up fitting wonderfully. A lot of VW part suppliers sell TMI. I wonder if any of them would have instructions they could get to you?

tmi=shit. go online and google seat cover replacement. its easier than it looks. just dont yank the covers down. turn them inside out and roll them over. its not that bad. tmi does not sell to retail so they are no help, they pobably dont know how to change the shit themselves. also jc whitney sucks too , theyd always call me with some bullshit questions often.

California Pacific also sells an interior restore instruction dvd for about $10. It has instructions for installing seat covers, like Kkirwin said, all covers are kind of generic, so MFG makes little difference.

It is not hard. In fact, I may even have a post here on it I can't remember. Throw them in a pillow cover in the dryer to warm them up.

It helps to have someone give you a hand. Tough to hold it and hog clip at same time. I also removed the string and replaced it with wire as per the originals.

I have had mine on there now for two years and they are holding up ok.

Use a cord to hold the coils collapsed. Secure with slip knots so that the cord can be pulled to release the coils after you have the covers on.

Call Sewfine, I bet they will help you.....tell them you have Sewfine covers. They have been great with me, albeit I bought complete covers for 2 cars.
