Don't worry, it's not just about the destination, but the journey. Enjoy every minute of it

Well I hate to break your heart, but the car won't be at this year's classic either. It just flat out isn't done yet and still has a couple of fairly major things and bunch of little detail stuff that still needs to be done one the car. I was going to be at the classic but due to time issues I won't be there this year...
So with that all said I should be back in California around July for a few weeks and I'm planning on getting a few more things knocked out on the car while I'm there. I figure if I keep plugging away at it like this I might be able to make next year's show season.... maybe. |

Lots of vagisil. BTW I'm actually in CA on leave right now and I've been working on the car again. Just as always though it's taking forever to do small projects, because I want to get it right. I'm taking pics too so I should have some updates. Won't be anything spectacular though.
I also had to completely start from scratch on the oil cooler mounting setup. I made some brackets thinking I could keep it simple. I posted some pics of them. Well I went to mock it all up and it wasn't going to work without looking like ass. So I scrapped that idea and last sunday I went ahead and made some new brackets that use the torsion tubes as a mounting point. I have some pics of it. But it has just been rough mocked up so far I have to do the finish work on the pieces this week and hopefully have it and the rest of the engine wrapped up so I can move onto the other stuff I need to finish. I'm working it one system at a time so I can check things off and never worry about them again. So on goes the fight to completion... Pics soon. _________________ Jason

Congrats, Your car is one of the nicest builds I've seen. Great job. I have a quick question: Are all four of your rims +13 offset? Thanks, Paul |

First of all, awesome documentation! You have some awesome, in depth pics! Beautiful restoration.
I'm not often a silver/grayish fan, but the color is beautiful! Awesome car! Thanks for sharing. |

2000: No the back wheels are the 13's and the front are the 21's. And thanks HOPE, I've put lots of time and work into the car and it has become a real labor of love. I've got 5 years into it. It would of been a lot less but life has thrown me a few curves. _________________ Jason

Im getting ready to set off on resto on my 59- curious if I could be rude for a second and ak you what was your bill from the body shop.
THey did a great job. Did they blast the body and fix any rust etc, prime and paint?
Curious if you could share that particular info. I really want to drop it off at Pro shop but would like to know some ranges on price to expect.
Thanks - This thread is awesome Your build is amazing! _________________ In the wild, health care is, Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me. I'm dead. |

Well it's a mixed basket. I had the body blasted at another shop. I forget what he charged exactly but I think it was around $800-1000 for the whole thing inside and out. Plus all the media was cleaned out there. I got a slight deal on the paint and body work but I paid $7500 for it and it took a little over a year to get done.
Thanks for the compliments. Keep in mind I had the car painted about 4 years ago now so prices may have changed since then. _________________ Jason

Thanks man. Ive gone through your build 3 times, I love what you've done. I can see many curse words, beers, sweat and tears have gone into it. Thanks for the info.
Last question and this is to anyone reading. What type of media blasting is the best for the these 50+ year old bodies? Thanks _________________ In the wild, health care is, Ow, I hurt my leg. I can't run. A lion eats me. I'm dead.

My guy used walnut shells. There was no panel warping and it ate through the rust that was on the car. Keep in mind if you have any rot on the car it will be holes afterwards. I was very happy with the results. _________________ Jason

You're a lefty! . Just kinda had to point that out.....
And the two ghias that are for sale that you are trying to pick from. The fist one looks like nobody loved it ,and the second one is way overpriced. Not trying to burst your bubble, just sayin. _________________ 1971 Karmann Ghia

None that I have pics of right now. I've had a few issues pop up recently and I've had to tend to those messes first. I have't worked on it in about 2 months actually. I got back to california and my life has been a whirlwind. It will be finished though. I figure a good goal to set is to have it done by next summer. My next job on it is to finish up the windows and get all the gaps set perfect with everything together. _________________ Jason

It's coming I have to post some pics up. Ive been working toward trying to get it done this year, so I have been working on the car but slacking on the pics. It is still being built but I had some health issues this year that have delayed the car getting finished. I've also gotten to the point with this car that I am no longer willing to do anything less than what I consider perfect. That means its taking longer to do stuff but it is going to be a much better car because of it. The details are going to make or break this thing, so no reason to rush it now.
I'm wrapping up my 63 ghia so I can bring that to The Classic this year. I just spent some time this weekend sorting out the suspension. I have a 4" narrowed beam with the airkewld adjusters on it and dropped spring plates from atom werks. Plus all the goodies that go with that; new tie rod ends, bushings, etc... _________________ Jason
