The primer is Dupli-Color rattle can. The top is Rustoleum flat black in the quart can. It wasn't dry yet. I'll take a shot once its completely dry.

Thanks Iaccy, I followed your build thread on your red '67, looks nice. I too will be going with the '66-down front fenders. 6kabrio7 your clip didn't look too bad on your vert from the pics, how far back of a cut do you need? Your best best is to get an OG one for better quality and fit. Here is a pic after the tank dried. I may give it another coat with a foam brush this time so I don't get the brush strokes.

Looking good. You're coming along. Been following you as I build mine. I do have to say though, part of what makes a 67 unique is the 12v headlights and horn grills. Just a pet peeve but I hate when people put early fenders on 67s.

Yea I know, its just that I've always wanted a bug with the older glass headlight covers, well actually I have the Porsche ones going on..I figured if I left the '67 fenders on, then the car would end up looking too much like my '70 below.

Sean I think you would have liked these for your bug since color might be the same Question ..I sold them a couple months ago tho Mad

I am going to use these OG ones which are like perfect

I also have these wheels going on eventually but not the 135s up front-Anyone interested in them?..so the car won't be stock, but not real crazy either Wink

And I will try to use these caps to off set the black a bit, that is if they fit right... they seem real tight, does anyone know if they are made for these wheels?

You're right same color. Luckily mine are in great shape. One little dent on the drivers side. Managed to get 2 matching front fenders too. I really like black 5 spokes. I've been thinking of running them on my 67. What I don't like is people who try to make thier 67s look like 64 or earlier. 67s are cool because of all the 1 year only parts. Customize them away and it just looks like you were too lazy to hunt the right part.

I know what you mean - I put a 1970 bug back to late model spec for the same reason.
However, if the '66 and earlier wings are teamed with blade bumpers without the towel rails (just small over-riders) and the rear lights are swapped for amber tops, then it would look like a European spec '67, so still kind of original and probably more of a talking point! Admittedly, you'd have to change to four lug with discs up front to be completely convincing, but if the lights and bumpers match, why not! Very Happy

Yea Im not doing the Euro look with the blade bumpers, Im going with the towel bar bumpers. I do have the OG rear bumper with the reverse lights mounted to it which I may use.
I have these flakes too that I may be using in the rear Twisted Evil

Finally got to welding this clip on.. For those needing to do the same, I highly recommend getting an OG clip if you can b/c they fit way better than any aftermarket one plus the guage metal is thicker.

Then tried the gastank:

Then for $hits and giggles I wanted to see what it would look like with the lights in, they are just laying in there. I love these cars with the old style lights and bumpers.

Do you see the sticker on the right side of the bumper? I guess one of the POs was in the US Dept. of Defense Naval Academy back in '86.
