Anyone know the earliest one of those?
The earliest I see on the registry is mid 1952.

I believe its this bus that David Sweinhagen owns

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. Happy to have seen this in person!

Thanks. This standard was produced on June 29,1951. It has a 24 model number like a deluxe. I think sunroof standards were that way through all of '51 so could be hard to tell looking through the registry.

Didn't know this was a '51. Wow. Still neat to see the sunroof bus in the early factory photo.

Just to pull these two pictures together from two different threads

I don't think I've seen a picture of the 1000th Bus (with garland) before.
Early 'no screen' gutter.

The one to the right is 1001, so we're not interested in that Smile

Can we assume the second Bus in the line-up is probably primer? It doesn't have the gloss of the other Buses beside it and the bumper and VW emblem are all the same color?

Interesting - I agree with you

I was trying to find the other picture the other day to see if it was in that.

I wondered if they fiddled the production order so the 1,000th bus was a shiny one that would look good in promotional pictures, rather than the primer one next door.

Agree, I think my classroom needs one as we do cover the bus working drawings in engineering design. Oddly I haven't any engineering students interested. I'm working on them.

An amazing picture, i think that will go on the workshop wall.
I think looking at the how the welding is done that the picture is some where between January and April 51.

Awesome assembly line photo. Some years ago I got the opportunity to purchase one of the original Volkswagen commissioned etching that were given to new dealers backing in the day. It's is signed and dated in 53. I don't think I have ever seen this actual photograph before. super cool.

Super cool detail picture

Commercial track to the left, upgrade models to the right
RHS, can see the interior panels going in, and then the headlining/sunroof?
Drums for sound deadening/door seal glue?

Can date the picture by the rear bumpers:
Panels got them at VIN 20-069409 (late Dec 53)
Single Cabs got them at VIN 20-079856 (late March 54)
So we know it’s between those two dates.

Guess the ones pulled off the line there need special attention.
Primer panel in front of the single cab.
Wondering how the track works too.

Tried an AI colorization program on these two pictures. I don't think they came out correct, but they look nice.

Good work. Brings them to life.
Is that an auto programme? Can you manually adjust it? Choose the colour of each bus?

Seems to have a decent percentage of the colours right
A lot more of the commercials would be dove blue (showing a lot of red in pic 1)
Looks like it makes bus 1 & 3 on the upgrade lane primer buses (pic 2)

No adjustments, just upload, wait about 30 seconds and down load. Mrs. Fish is genealogist and the program is on one of her sites. Heritage.com (?) I think it is preprogrammed just for people. I'm sure there are other programs out there that you have more input, say like photoshop, but we/she doesn't have it. Like you said it does give the pictures more life.
