Trying the Tri-Mil sidewinder exhaust. Hangs lower than i like but it is not lower than my engine sump. There is still 12” clearance to the ground under it.
Otherwise it definitely runs great on my 2110cc.

Hi Guys,
Has anyone bought or is running one of these exhausts please?
Also, interested in the Vintage Speed... what other options are people running. Will be attached to a 1776cc engine. I don't want it to be loud. I like my music & still want to chat when I drive.
Any info appreciated.

I did want to stress I did ask MT to place my O2 sensor in a certain spot normally there is one on each side of the muffler itself. Since I'm going FI at a later date I asked for the bung on the piping pointing towards the front of the car so the O2 will be a little more hidden.
I can't stop starring at my new exhaust when I go in my garage can't wait to finish my rebuild so I can fire it up. |

An update on the Vintage Speed exhaust courtesy of Jzsquared's post on his build.

One of my main requirements was a exhaust that incorporated a functional heat riser connection not the afterthoughts that are on most exhausts these days. The single carb runs great when the manifold is properly heated. These riser connections use a high and low pressure to achieve this.
Secondly, I plan to run one of ThedubShops FI kits at a later stage so I had a O2 bung installed where I can keep it on all the time and it will not stick out like a soar thumb. Until I FI the car I still will have the O2 sensor installed since I have a AFR guage in the car, never hurts to know what I'm running.
The quality of this work is excellent and I mean EXCELLENT, I can't believe how well it turned out. It will exit the bumper on both sides like stock and ground clearance will be the same.
O2 bung up close the sensor will be barely noticeable from behind the car

I have developed an exhaust leak.
I have an original VW pea shooter on my Thing and it sticks out under the bumper quite a bit. I don't think that's where the leak is, but my thinking is if I'm going to take it all off to re-seat it all and tighten it up, it'd be nice to have a muffler that actually exits the bumper.
I'm running heater boxes on my Thing...
Has anyone run the OEM Style 74 muffler that German Motor Works sells?
Does anyone know if the one Mid-America is selling is the same manufacturer? It appears to be ~$150 cheaper
Is the performance of the TTS divided header and stainless worth the extra $$$? Does it make setting the valves more difficult?
I'd like a slightly quieter exhaust so I can hear the engine better - and maybe a radio. _________________ '74 Thing [Fritz]

A through-the-bumper exhaust for a Thing and a Type IV. Uh oh, time to rethink my strategy.
Any idea what engine sizes the Type IV exhaust accommodates? Or the Type I will accommodate?

Just an FYI, Vintage Speed who makes these exhausts told me they are working with TTS to produce a Thing specific exhaust similar to the unit they made for the Type 4 motor in the Thing posted recently by iltis74. This one will be for a type 1.

I contacted vintage speed and they do not have a thing specific kit. Does anyone know if the slammed bus or kit car kits would work? |

With the general complaint about the Tri Mil being it is a bit noisy, I may give it a try if I find the Tri Mil a bit noisy as well.
