Installed BRV split swing axle boot (the kit was missing 2 nuts so I had to use 2 from the old boot).
Fits nice and tight.
Looks good.

Drained all the old trans fluid, cleaned lots of gunk from the magnet on the drain plug.
Filled with 2 quarts of Valvoline 80W-90 gear oil.

Replaced fuel line and filter under the bus.
Decided to skip using the worm clamps.
This hose was much tighter.

Replaced the piece of rubber I used as a gasket under the vented gas cap.
It was dried up.
Used a new valve cover gasket as a fuel cap gasket after cutting it to fit.

You can use the gasket for the oil cap too, no seam

I had such amazing success with the Wolfsburg West oil drain plate gaskets that I decided to try their valve cover gaskets.

No such luck.
Maybe I got a bad one but one side leaked just sitting in the garage.
The other side was dry.

I switched back to cork.
Never had problems with that as long as I changed them after each valve adjustment

Time to make some panels out of plastic cardboard.
Don’t have to worry about getting them wet and warping

don.ville, I wish I still had my original kick panels as I would have sent them to you, although I did send them it to a Veteran several years ago to complete his bus.

You are very inventive with that corrugated plastic.

Thinking of your peach bus today, I just received a set of VW Trends 1996 and your beauty is in it. Keep up the good work.

The wiring on this bus is totally hand made by the customizers that made it.
Many parts are from different year VWs.

Recently the turn signals started to flash really fast even though no bulbs were out. This usually happens because of low voltage/bad grounds.
I did some voltage checks and noticed there was a voltage drop on the ignition circuit.

I also wanted to clean up the wiring behind the speedo as it looked so untidy.
I can’t replace the wiring with a new harness without putting back all the factory switches and lights which I don’t have.

The start:

Some of the aftermarket wiring used in the bus have gotten buildup on the internal copper.

The flashers always worked great, and still do.

Note: for some reason the previous owner installed euro style tail lamps.
The turn signal is a separate bulb in the lower half of the taillight, NOT combined with the tail/stop bulb.
So the wiring is different due to that.
The flasher relay is not the 9 prong bus version, neither is the hi/low beam relay.
The turn signal switch is from WW which seems correct for this bus so I had to wire it differently to match my bastard bus

The turn signals were always flashing fast (like a bad bulb) even with all the bulbs working. (Especially when you pressed the brake. )
At night with the headlights on, if you pressed the brake the GEN light would come on very dim.
All seemed to be symptoms related to low voltage, poor terminations, poor grounds.

Cleaned and tightened up connections, removed redundant crimps, terminations, wires, and reduced voltage drop across various points.

Drove it last night and didn’t see any of the previous issues.
Fingers crossed 👍👍👍😀

I didn't know Euro lights were different wiring. I like them because the lens blinker is more visible.

This one in the classifieds states 62-67.
