The KYB has adjust shocks made the front slightly higher than the rear because the shocks are taller at rest AND the rear Gabriel hijacker air shocks were bad after all these years.

So I did some shock research and bought a brand new set of shocks designed for the rear of a late model Kia Forte for the front and moved the KYB gas shocks to the rear.

Kia Forte rear shocks on the front beam (minor cutting of top bushing with a jigsaw required)

Well I will get a change to give you detailed pics because after many years of nothing much, I have to replace the alternator, and I will be pulling the engine to do it so I can have an inspection after all these years.

Took the bus for a warm-up drive this past weekend and when I got to my destination it would not start.

I jump started it with a small lithium battery pack and got home.

The alternator light did not come on while driving.

Voltage was 12.1 with the engine running or not.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I checked again and see that when I turn on the ignition key, without starting the engine, the red GEN light on the left does not come on.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I can check the bulb circuit fairly quickly to make sure the wiring and bulb are good by removing the small wire with the spade terminal from the alternator and touching it to ground of the body and then turning on the key without starting the engine.

I go turn on the key and the RED light was ON, meaning that the alternator bulb wiring is OK, and the bulb is good and working as expected.

So after 12years and 5 months, the Bosch alternator died:

His dad passed away in 2019, but said he would be happy it's being taken care of. Thumbs Up Cool

Great thread, I’m rereading.
I love the color because it is so different and nice. I even tracked down the magazine. Good read.

Keep up the good work it helps us all especially those with a 67 bus Wink

My steering box started to show some drips at the oil seal.
Topped it up with 90W gear oil, and will have to shop for a new seal.

Oil Seal is part #19 on the Bentley diagram
(https://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=N149071)

Instruction just say "insert new oil seal" Smile

The bus starts and runs much smoother, shifts like a new car.
But overnight the swing axle CV boot started to leak quite a bit.

I suspect the trans was mostly empty of gear oil because it took 2 liters (out of 3) to fill.

Once I filled it up the boot started leaking.
Tighten the clamp and it leaked worse.
Readjusting the clamp and boot to see if that helps.

This pic is before.
After it was a steady trickle of oil.

driving on the highway.
Loud rubbing noise started in the front behind the dash.
The only moving part there is the speedometer cable, so I start wiggling it while driving and the noise comes and goes.

I unscrew the cable while at speed and see that it is not spinning inside.

That happens when the speedo itself is dry and starts binding until it freezes! Then SNAP! d'oh!

Time to open up the speedo for service or send it out for rebuild. Just replacing the cable will most likely break it again. Sad

I’ve serviced mine at least twice and it’s still going good. Cool

Thanks for the info.
I have never opened one up. I thought the speedo cable turned a magnetic wheel inside the speedo and wasn’t mechanically connected to the number dials.
