So...
Some progress on the "Swedish Binz" Yes I know it´s not a real Binz, but it is still coach built of a Swedish coach builder in 1958 of a brand new january-58 single cab.
alot of welding have been done the last couple of years.

I think this is the best place for it. Smile

Does it have a funky rear door mechanism and handle recess?
I'd be interested in a better pics of that and knowing if it works like a regular cargo door

Yes, you should absolutely start a thread on your 58 DC. I looked through your photos you posted on this site and saw this one. Have you done any work since this one was taken?

Interesting underside, never knew they wore belly pans. Hope you keep us posted on the rare refinements.

Currently the truck is on all fours. The plan is to finish up the work on the ground due to door fitment, glass, etc. To the best of my knowledge October 58 double cabs only have the belly pans. November and December do not. I have also read Double cabs began life in October of 58, what I find confusing is production of double cabs was transferred to VW in Nov of 58. Does this explain the belly pans on October trucks only? I bought this truck in 1995. I was 19 years old. I will be 43 this year. It’s time to get on it!! Lots of loot spent on metal. Starting a thread I am still on the fence so to speak. It’s a cool early double cab. Possibly the earliest known.

I'm seriously contemplating starting a rolling-resto on my Nov. 58 Binz - please start a thread, I need the inspiration right now!

So did this one still have the rear seat, and is it an actual Binz seat?

I have known this truck since the early 90's, and tried to buy it a few times from a previous owner back when they weren't worth a damn. I am curious if you would share the story about how you came to find it. I know what town it was in, but I did not have the contact info.

So, not a word about this truck in response to my query? I thought maybe the gathered masses here might want to know the story of how you found it.

By the way, it is the same truck in three of these four photos.

From what I understand it was actually from a WTB ad he had here. There were several other busses with it in the woods including a 64 11 window I ended up with.

Yes, the guy that sold the Binz had a bunch of VW's on his property in Northern MN. I did not know John bought a bunch of stuff from him, only that he bought the Binz.

Glad to know it's not sitting in the woods anymore.

Also glad to know it's not an over-restored museum piece.
