So, there has been a bunch of very rare early westfalia items popping up on the samba gallery lately. The red and white triple strip `58 tent and now this amazing Camping Box kit and the early EARLY west tent!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I am a bit rusty on the early westy "who has what" info anymore...but was hardcore back in the old school days...from what I know this earliest of early westfalia tent is the "only one (known) in existence"...is that correct...anyone know of another.

Honestly...I never thought I would see one of these babies come to light!
What would this be worth...name your price!

I know of two other orange/green tents. one is in california on a bay window bus, and the other is in south africa on a RHD barndoor westy. the one in south africa is falling apart.

That makes five of those tents known to exist. Pretty cool to see David posting pictures of that stuff. That campingbox kit pictured came out of a '56 or '57 bus. Where are the propane bottles or the other two bed planks?

oh yeah, I forgot about a couple.

still a rare tent, in an ugly yet strangely somewhat pleasing color scheme.

The side curtain on that tent matches the fabric of the awning tent I have. Anybody else ever seen, or have any info on this yellow tent with white stripes? I got it from Jim P. last year, he found it on eBarf. It has poles that are very similar to Westy ones but are made from US-sourced steel conduit.
More pix are on page 5 of my gallery.

Stan the yellow tent I sold you is home made from american made ruberized canvas. is still a cool tent hand made back in the day.
How ever made it did a nice job.

The yellow /white side on the rare tent looks like the same stuff.
I would think it's sides are also home made if the same stuff as stans.
In the brochers of that same tent the sides are the same as the top.

The tent pictured on the baywindow never has sides. It's pretty hacked up, cut down to fit some homemade steel poles, lots of holes & patches, and been heavily modified in other ways......but I don't think it ever had sides. He picked it up from hot dog fred at the Red Barn show a few years back (the year Freds bus was stolen) and has been rocking it ever since. I've been trying to talk him into trading for a different tent for a few years now, mainly because I'd like to have that fabric made and a copy made for my yellow '56. I'm sure he'll get bored of it eventually. Real nice guy and he knows what he's got. The yellow side does look identical to Stan's but that was a more recent addition.

Did anyone get the 58 tent that was on ebay yesterday for about 30 min?
It was in a ad for a bay window tent guy said he also had a 58 westy canvas only.
