Hello-

I was at a friend's house when I happened to pick up a set of Porsche bearings for his 356 project. Holy **** they were heavy! I assume that Porsche bearings are made of a stronger/denser material than what's used in 36hp bearings. Would 356 A/B bearings provide enough extra support for a wimpy 36hp crank to justify the cost?

Thanks,

Paul

its not so much the bearings that fail with a weak crank, its the case itself that gets pounded. A stronger bearing night provide some protection from oil starvation or heat, but what breaks cranks is the case journal for the bearing getting pounded into an egg shape, then the crank flexes and breaks.
