Hello Jimbo, Been inactive since knee surgery has kept me sidelined, but hoping to be able to go out to the garage soon. Car is back from Cooker's and looks killer ! They did a " patina " paint scheme in Afrika Korps colors including scrapes, bruises, greasy hand prints and lots of desert dirt, including two .303 bullet holes in the deck lid ! The body is complete except for wiring, dash board pods, sunroof and windows, etc. Seats and interior panels are done but not installed. Chassis is ready to go back together awaiting final welding on the tunnel. Still plenty of work, but should be the fun part. How's your project situation, I haven't been on thesamba for some time so I don't know what you've been up to. Will post some photos when the dust settles. Good to hear from you, have a nice holiday weekend, Gene |

You need to get some pictures posted! Knees good or bad. Get one of the kids to snap a few pictures and help you post them up! We all need to see this progress!!!!
Sorry to hear your knee is wacked. I have been semi side lined with a pulled back muscle. Been nursing it along for a few months. It is just, as a plumber, getting under a sink is a twisting type of dance. That aggravates the muscle and I move backwards on the healing scale.
Get better soon! And POST SOME PICTURES! I want to see this paint scheme! Sounds super cool! _________________ Jimbo

Hello,
Stumbled upon this thread a while back and have been hooked since! Wondering Gene if you have any further updates or additional pictures to share.
Many thanks. |

Nothing new lately, recovering ( again ) from knee surgery. Body work and paint done flawlessly by Cooker's awaiting the chassis . Major mods on chassis to replicate Typ 87 two wheel drive configuration. All machine work and parts ready to be assembled pending recovery from surgery. |

Glad to hear that you are on the mend after your surgery. I called Cooker's and enquired on swapping out my dash and adding semaphores - I think I am going to have them do the work on my car as well. |

Mike, Just started driving this week and spent the last two days working in the garage on the '50 Hoffman Standard. Have a shifting problem that's not cooperating with any solution so far. Cooker's did their usual amazing transformation on what was a Frankenstein collection of incredibly bad previous " restoration " work. Everything forward of the windshield had to be replaced as well as the usual heater channels, and everything 6" above the floor pan. The chassis was the worst and required opening up the tunnel and new floor pans and tubing. Cooker's usually have a long waiting list, but they'll love to work on Splits. What year is your project ? I have a pair of B pillar semaphore sections if you don't already have them. Let me know what they have to say about getting your car in there. Unfortunately I won't be able to get back on the Typ 87 until I get a couple of other projects ready for state inspection. Gene |

Mike, Just realized that I also have a new Split dash from Sam Steele in Spain, same one I used in the Typ 87 mod. Gene |

Hello Gene,
Great to hear you are out and about. I'm sure it's great to be driving again! I picked up a DKB split dash replacement out of California and it arrived the other day. Ugh ! I wish I had checked the forum page sooner .... the Sam Steele dash looks like a nice piece as well. I also picked up a pair of semaphore pockets from Rare Air but I am thinking it might be easier to add in the B Pillers .... I'll keep you posted on those guys. It's a 1957 body, that has a split rear window added in at some point. Chassis and engine are from a later year models (I have to do the research and find out more on both of them).
Here are a few pictures:
All the best,
Mike |

Mike, Cool beans ! I'm envious that you're on the road and your car looks great ! I waited like it seems forever to get the dash from Sam Steele, took so long I ordered two in case I was crazy enough to do another repro. Since you go by NYCMike I assume you're somewhere around there ? I'm on Eastern Long Island. Trying to finish up some overdue work on several other cars soI can get back on the Typ 87 project. Been back in the garage for a couple of weeks now and finally getting some things done. Getting my '50 Standard Sedan ready for St. Insp so I can fianally drive after Cooker's did their usual incredible work. BTW I also used the DAK palm tree without the swastika, but Cooker's went wild with the desert patina. Looks like it was just dragged out of the N.African desert, camel shit and all. I haven't wanted to show any photos until it's close to finished, but if you give me a cell phone number I can send what I have on my phone. I didn't want to spend the bucks for repro bumpers and guards ( about $2000 ) so I made mine from cut down bumpers and guards from a '37 Ford ! Regards , Gene |
