I thought it might be fun to post pictures of all the crazy "special" model T3 variants that VW produced throughout the years.

For example: Fire trucks, ambulance, vending trucks etc.

Please post a pic if you have seen something odd or unusual.

Here's a few of mine...

Never seen one like this... it's a wiking toy, but I'm sure it's based on a real model.

Searched but couldn't find a picture, the weirdest I've seen was a Vanagon with a built in Air Traffic Control Tower. Anybody else know what I'm talking about?

I've seen most of those in this book I have... There are some others. If I wasn't trying to finish of some holiday stuff, I'd scan a few..

Fun book.

I did a search. What actually is the difference between a T25 and a T3? I am old school and not up on these designations. I am familiar with Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 and the Type 4 for from the 60's and 70's. Thank you

VW Transporter, type: T,1,2,3,4,5

It's all about the generations of the VW bus. We start at T1, 1949 - 1967, then T2 1968-1979, then T3 1980-1992, T4 starts in 1993- 2003, and the most current T5.

T25, is the British designation for T3. The US is always "Vanagon", I'm not sure VW ever used T3 as an official designation in the US, but in Europe it's pretty common.

I think, the sqaureback is type III, not T3.

I once read a book about VW Buses written by a William Burt who continually, and to my irritation, refered to the Vanagon as The Wedge. I wanted to give the author a wedge. The book was written and published in the USA, but he used that term like he never owned a Vanagon. I later learned that The Wedge is an actual nickname for the T25 used in Britain. Lesson learned. Smile

Here's the cover. You might recognise the bus and the location. I'll give you a hint: HCBF.

Not sure if this counts as "special" but I'd say "abused" covers it. Don't know what org was using this (to spray poison?) but I found it looking abandoned while I was on a hike one afternoon.

Whew, I think I bought the right mirrors then. Thank you for the explanation.
