Ever see those fang roof pieces for sale? I've always thought about that plus a sunroof, instead of a luggage wrack...

It really is amazing the variety of tasks, and the serious mechanical demands, that were made on these things, and they had such a wee little motor, relatively flexible chassis, etc. For the same tasks here we use gargantuan trucks with 5X the horsepower, etc.

Pretty cool rigs.

I know an older guy here in the UK who had a HIAB-equipped Pritschenwagen years ago. He thinks that it was too much for the flexy chassis too, because it grew cracks from where the crane mast went through the load deck and eventually broke its back Shocked

They just look like a custom DIY project. Can't say they appeal to me though. Sick

I looked though all the pages and couldn't find a Type 3 that was made into a Hearse. Surely there must be one somewhere! Think black with those chrome Landau things on the side.
Ahhh... Here's one:
www.vanagonhacks.com/2014/06/the-vanagon-hearse/

But surely they must have been common in Europe.

Use the search engine of your choice with the terms VW T3 "Leichenwagen" or "Bestattungsfahrzeug" Wink

Surprisingly rare, it would seem.
