Does anyone have copies of the July, Aug, Sept, Oct 1998 VW Trends. I guess there is a series of articles on 36hp rebuilds and I would love a copy. I will pay for copies or whatever...there was an original thread on this about 2 years ago and I pm'd the guy who said he had them but no response. Thanks.

if it helps, they were written by a guy named Hank Roed.
They USED to be on the VW Trends website, <www.vwtrendsweb.com> _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story

I tried to get a hold of him but just found this http://www.classicvws.com/hank/ maybe the 36 hp article could be on a web site as a "tribute" with a link posted? |

I'm sorry to hear that the author of this series passed away, I was just getting into VWs when this was first published and remember the article well.
I will scan and post them here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/helmsorig/36hpRebuildArticleVWTrends7981098#
I put up the first issue tonight and I'll continue with the rest of them later on today. Once you open the image, click on the "zoom in" icon to view it full size. YOu shoudl also be able to right click -> "save image as" once zoomed in to view them offline at your leisure./
If they look shitty or they're out of order or something, I'll rescan/fix them later..... I may have drank a little too much tonight. _________________ Evan H.

Good job, Lloyd....I have every issue since September, 1997 until I think June of 2001, but they are still all in boxes in the garage...

Alright, they're all posted up. I've gotten a couple questions about printing them, so I test printed a couple random pages and they seem to print nice and readable. Don't try to print them from the browser window; save them to your computer and print them from Paint or Windows Photo Gallery, or whatever program you may have:
- Open the photo in the album and enlarge it with the magnifying glass icon
- To download them, right click and then:
~In Internet Explorer, click "Save Background As" to save
~In Firefox, click "View Background Image", then click to enlarge, right click and "Save Image As"
-To print from MS Paint for Vista, open the picture in Paint, then go File -> Page Setup and under Scaling choose "Fit to" and enter 1 by 1 page(s). I would also type in 0 for all the margins and it will automatically pick the smallest margins for you so it's as big as possible on one page. File -> Print Preview is always a good idea before you print, too.
-To print from Windows Photo Gallery for Vista, open the photo there, choose Print, then click "Fit picture to frame" and choose "Full page photo".
Those are the only two programs I have to print from, but the basic idea is the same for any other/older ones you might have.
Dave... I think you might have me confused with someone else. I think there's a couple similar user names to mine. _________________ Evan H.

Yes, I thought it was my Humboldt County neighbor, Lloyd, aka Downtown Brown, that put them up, I stand corrected, thanks for putting them up. Hank was an accomplished rebuilder of the old 36'ers, having done literally hundreds over the years. And with VW Trends being deceased, I don't imagine there would be any copyright infringement issue over posting them, so thank you so much for doing that. _________________ 2003 Samba Chummie Winner- Best Story
