Looking for some bulley bar and brush guard options... Looking for some pics for ideas and possible source as well. I'm currently running the GoWesty fron bumper....

For the rear I hear the bronco II bumper works nicely. Also for the spare tire the kia sportage swing away carrier works well. Both easily found at a bone yard.

I'll third that. It's one of the more functional that doesn't look half bad.

Not 100% on this but I heard several years ago Germany implemented restrictions against bull bars that effectively put many of the manufacturers out of business like Budich. Where all those used ones went ... who knows ?

Oz has different roo bar varieties but I haven't seen one I like yet - they are primarily functional and not appearance oriented. There are several NA generic bars produced for US vehicles and I've seen a few adapted to the vanagon but nothing exciting there either. Of course GoWesty, Gary Lee, VanCafe plus a few others produce their versions. One of the more promising I've seen recently are from Rocky Mountain Westy - several types of front and rear bars plus a nice spare tire and jerry can carrier unit.

Those are tight, $$$$$ though if you factor in shipping thats the only reason I didnt go with the Van cafe bumpers shipping would have been like $500... The one thing i'm not so keen on with the Rocky Mtn bumpers is how they are not solid and you can see in between the pipes.... I hear GW is working on brush guards for their bumper set up which should be pretty swee and fit perfect.

Agreed ... that's prevented me from ordering any bull bumpers.

RMW's pictured bumper is their lighter weight one and IMHO the more attractive. If you go to their site they have a 2nd beefier version of this.

GW's heavy front and rear bumpers are highly functional but never turned me on in appearance. And I've been waiting a long time to see these predicted brush guards they've been crowing about for years. If they look halfway decent then GW's bumper could become a contender for me. Otherwise, I'm still giving RMW strong consideration.

Never heard of them until now.

What I need is something up front to protect the upper part of the vanagon nose, much like what Eric shows on his Jagd and what Dave Marshall in BC has on two of his rigs. I do a lot of long distance traveling in the west so when encountering some unfortunate long leggity beastie like antelope, moose, deer, horse, cow they stand high enough to come right into your headlights, upper grill, or even higher for a moose. In fact most large critter/van accidents I've seen, the hits are right on the corners. In Oz they produce these tall massive forward jutting roo bars to make sure the roo doesn't come thru the windshield in their face.

The trick (for me) is to find something that's both functional and reasonably visually appealing. For those that travel mostly around town the lower heavy tube or plate bumpers with center riser are probably just fine.

I know Road Armor does most of the design work on cad modeling software. That is translated to a flat pattern, and then to the punch, and then formed. If there is enough interest they may CAD something up and see if they get any bites.

I agree it needs to look right! If all your looking for is protection you can always weld on an I-beam and paint it.

hello there, my name is doug and i work at Rocky Mountain Westy. we are currently in the process of building a full front end brush gaurd style bumper. i just finished the first one this morning, but didnt bring a camera with me to the shop today, so no photos, but i will try to take a pic friday morning and post it that evening. if you go to our website, www.rmwesty.com , and click on the brushhog bumper, it is very similar to that. there are bars going up the sides of the van, with a tube going across the front of the van, just over the headlight grill. also, there are tubes going across just above the top of the turn signals that tie into the nosepick, and then there are two bars going down from the top tube, down to the bar below it. kind of confusing, but im pretty pumped on it, it looks pretty sweet on the syncro adventurewagon we've doing an svx conversion on. hope this doesnt sound too confusing, but i think a lot of people will like it. please post your comments on it when i get a picture of it.

price range is still totally up in the air, this is the first one, so we gotta get them kinda dialed in before we can get a good price on it, and shipping will deffinitely be a big factor as well, as it will have to be shipped via freight on a pallet, but we try to get the best price for you on shipping. but hey, there is a good excuse for you all to take a trip to beautiful colorado and enjoy the mountains and your vanagons!!
we are constantly building things, improving, or just trying different things, some work and some dont. the website deffinitely gets neglected, and the local people around here deffinitely get the most out of us, getting to know whats going on at all times, but im trying to get a lot of pictures and products together for the website.
