Nice work. Hey Bill, how are you? I'm retiring in a few months. Your friend ready to sell that double cab yet? I want to learn how to do work like this. _________________ 67 Ghia coupe, Retired military.

I haven't done much lately. I have been building tow bars and hitches to help pay for projects. One being the 100 ton press I am building. So I can make more parts for the DC and other stuff. _________________ Why buy what you can build.

I made some progress today. I ripped out the cargo floor and started fixing the structure. I have both inner rockers in and am working on the pillars and outer rockers.

very nice work, Im impressed.
question, on the longer rocker sections, how are you making sure the curvature is consistent across the length of the piece. Shrinking just the flanged bends the ends nice, but not the center? _________________ drive your split. |

Thanks Guys.
Faster, If I did it full time I would probably hate it after a while. There are sometimes I don't want to work on the cars so I do machining and building tow bars and other parts. I like it as a hobby for now. It will be some time before I do the whole rotisserie resto. I have several others ahead of this one. I just want to drive it for now. When I do though I will post pics of the process.
Jake, I shrink the edges and then shape the center by hand to match the edge contours. _________________ Why buy what you can build.

ah yes, I figured as much. Wasnt sure if you used a slip roll and then tipped the edges with a beader...but I thought I saw the telltale jaw marks of a shrinker on there
hey, do you use a profile gauge/template to check the curvature all the way along the piece? I might try making a longer rocker for the drivers side of a bus for fun. Im thinking putting a step flange at the top of it would prevent the top edge from deforming too much. thoughts? _________________ drive your split. |

I did use a profile gauge but I also have an OG section of a rocker as a guide.
I used a WW rocker on my deluxe and it came with the flange. Its a preference thing but I don't like flanges. I like to butt weld but is extremely hard to not warp the panel. _________________ Why buy what you can build.

Very nice, I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a whole bus yourself from scratch!
One thing I find troubling is how people even let their cars get in this condition in the first place. |
