My new goodie box from Canada arrived the other day. I had purchased a second unit from Ian to help fuel my "turned on again" gas heater obsession. He furnished me with one of the same early type 6v BN2s and a later pump type 12v BN2.
I quickly had at the bits and pieces of this new early BN2 to see what condition things were in. The only hard part, like the first one was getting the micro switch-quartz holder tube off. It gets quite a bit of carbon build up making for a very difficult removal. This one broke the receiver off ass I was pulling. Ill have to have some one weld it back on. But other than that I may have a winner again-thanks Ian!

Well the second unit is now finished to the same standard as the first. I couldnt help myself and had to "restore" it as well. It has a bad diaphram in the metering regulator. So Ill have to sort that out. Other than that it all works, thats its bits being tested in the above movies.
So here is the new one.
Next to the other one. I wounder how long its been since two of these type of Eberspachers were restored let alone placed next to another as if they were new out of the box!!!
MAD
What it looked like from Ian.
Thanks again to Ian! Cheers mate, pints on me _________________

Jason, I have about 120 lbs of diaphragm material if you need any.
About 3 sq ft for the price of the postage.
In fact I may even have the instructions for rebuilding them on my web site someplace. Compliments of a T-2 web site with their permission. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

If I sent you my diaphram would you rebuild it? _________________

I have never done one myself. I have a regulator for mine here that needs to be rebuilt. I was going to let you practice on yours, and then I would get you to do mine.
I bought roll of material at a Mahle auction when they closed a local plant. It was laying there on a skid with some other stuff, and when they started the bidding, I bid $2.00 for the whole skid of stuff. I got it for the $2.00 bid.
I found out later from someone in purchasing, that they paid over $5000 for the roll. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Rebuilding the pumps is pretty straightforward- I've done about a dozen of them.
Russ, if you ever want to get rid of some of that material let me know. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Next time I am out in the shop, I will roll some off the roll. I need a big piece for a project of mine.
3'x3' will make you a LOT of diaphragms.
This is silicone/fiberglass based material, that our R&D department bought to prototype fuel pressure regulators.
PM me your address. You too Jason. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

This is the company that we bought all of our fuel regulator diaphragms from.

Here is what the roll I have looks like. Not quite that big a roll tho.

Russ sent me a large sheet of rubber material for the diaphram replacement. I went ahead and tackled the pump first since its an easy fix. The pump pieces all unscrew. All I had to do was pull off the old one, cut a new one out and set the rod length so it works. Wala! These can be fixed in less than a half hour.

Here is the hard part of the whole deal. Not per say hard but trying as you dont know for sure how it comes apart till you actualy do one. So I jumped in and got them dismantled. Its the meetering diaphram that was truly hard and britle. Looks to have some leakage or water intrusion at some point. Now I need to get some brass screws to put it back together.
I was wondering if there is any type of gas resistant adheasive out there? It wont need much to hold these metal parts on the new gasket? And they wont just fly off eithor if the glue fails. There is still lots of meat left on the original rivets to hold things together.
Wish me luck! _________________

I have a '69 Notchback Automatic that I have been restoring that i got from Canada. Had extensive body work done and they remove the perfectly working heater unit and put all the part in a box. Nobody have any idea how to reassemble. We have been close a few times but i really need some help. Any hints? I would greatly appreciate any help as i really want to put this back in. Thanks Rob

And these from Espar themselves. Plus some from Cali imports when they were offering reprints. Shame on them as I bet they didnt ask VW or Eberspacher But they are mostly for the old later 12v one I had.

Thanks Notchboy. I do not have any of those manuals. Mine is BN2 and 12V. Looks like the cal import manual. Where can I get one of those? I think I am getting closer. I was cgoing to give shot at cleaning out the filter and pump. If I need some of the material you scored on can I buy some from you or have you rebuild mine? R |
