These tires give a load index of 93 but don't say what the load range is. Would these be safe to use on the vanagon? The ply # is not mentioned either.

I think you want a load index of at least 97 for a full Westy. from what I found those Generals are 6 ply. I run 6 plys, but I don't have a full Westy. if it were me and I had a full Westy, I would go 8 ply.

Looks like I'll go with the hankooks.

Will the larger 195/00- size fit in the spare tire compartment?

I have two 85's, one with a deep tire carrier, one with the narrow. If yours has the deep, then yes it will fit, narrow is a no.
Thank you,

David

How deep is the deep? How can I tell without having another to compare it?

Deep is visibly rounded out with a ring the tire sits in, narrow is almost flat on the bottom.

Thank you,

David
