Thanks, here are some before after pics of the engine
and the seat from the junkyard. It's amazing what a little bit of duct tape and fishing line can do!

I replaced the main wire harness a week ago.
I put the motor in recently got it started and worked on the carb (webber) I don't think I'm going to like that carb but I got it to work and took Herbie out for test drive today. I got up to 40MPH so far. I ran it through 4 gears and the transmission seems OK. With a little more tinkering it should run a little smoother but not bad so far.
There is still a lot of body work so far and it doesn't look like much yet but I'm going to take a break for a wile and do some fishing again. This was like having a second job:)

Well it was fun wile it lasted but the carb gave out around 400 miles. No too bad since I just slapped it back on the engine when we put it back. I just dialed it in as best I could that was all and it sat for twenty years before I got it. That says a lot about the VW engine, it ran good till that happened. I was just telling some one I was going to take it off the road for the winter and then it went.
I have a lot planned for it this winter and started when I go it home. The carb rebuild kit is on its way also. So I got to tow it with the tow bar we got with it for the first time.

We took Ocho out for one last drive yesterday before putting him away for the winter and to start the winter projects. We went back to the same spot in Somers CT that we got the earlier picture with the foliage in the background. It was kind of weird, lots of people waived and gave the thumbs up. I haven't seen that in a while. I was starting to think people were getting used to seeing our car now since we put 3000 miles on this year. Maybe they were saying good bye:)
During that 3000 miles we were able to take it to the beach two and a half times (a heat riser gasket blew out and I thought it was something worse), the drive in movies four times, our first car show with the car: Cars Are The Stars in Ellington, then to The Litchfield Bug In, Cruising Main Street, Manchester, the CT Bug-A-Fair, Marks Auto Parts CVA cruise, CVA's 2nd Annual Oktoberfest, Cartoberfest in New Hartford, The Transporterfest/VW Day Brookline, Mass and the Connecticut Volkswagen Association’s Fall Foliage Cruise.
As of writing this I already have the engine out and am planning on resealing it, maybe I'll slow the oil leaks down a bit. I'm also planning on finishing up the remaining bodywork to get it ready for paint, hopefully next year. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=

thanks!
I finally installed the correct style glove box door. The car came without the door and the hinges were ripped out of it. I originally didn’t realize how available glove box doors were so I spent about an hour making one out of sheet metal. The next show I went to I saw one for 2 bucks. After seeing that I later located the hinges on e bay. Notice the original color of the door and the hinges. They came from two different places. I wasn’t even looking to match them, it just worked out that way. Too funny.

For you people who may or may not be following this poor excuse for a build thread here are some updates. Just incase you thought I gave up on it
I finally did the spring plate bushings. I had them since last year but never got to it just incase it would keep the car off the road too long. Now that it’s off the road to finish the bodywork.
As you can see here the car is stripped down quite a bit. I removed all windows to fix any rust in the window frames. I removed the headliner. I wanted to keep it but there was a small fire when a spark hit it during some welding in the back. Don’t worry I had a fire extinguisher right by my side so I stamped the fire out with it. Then I painted the interior with a rust preventative and the rear window frames after addressing the rust. It wasn’t too bad off though.
