They use the same bolt pattern.
Aircooled axles were slightly longer than wbx axles, both sides.
Might not matter, maybe unless lifted.

On the high angle axles...
A) are they a stock VW bolt configuration, or the 944 bolt pattern?
B) if they are stock VW, what keeps them from fitting an aircooled transmission? (The joints, not the axle length itself)
I ask to know if I can take the joint and install it on a automatic axle, and put it on an aircooled...
Thanks! |

That’s what I figured. So if it’s a stock VW bolt pattern and spline pattern, I can simply swap the joints onto my automatic aircooled axle shafts. Which I may need to do since I sit at 19” in the rear on syncro springs _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Yes the 944 joints will fit your air cooled axles .
Burley Motorsports has high quality 944 joint kits that come with boots and grease etc in stock now.
Will be posting them on our website for sale Monday.
The price is $49 ea for these kits. _________________ Protect your investment !

Sweet!
So to recap:
The joints you sell allow for install on any van axle, auto or manual or air or water, and bolt directly onto a factory VW axle flange? Or will I still need 944 flanges? _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Yes that is correct , the 944 cv joint and cv flange and the type 2 bus / vanagon flange is the same diameter and bolt pattern etc so they bolt directly on.
I should also mention the 944 axle splines are the same as the type 2 bus / vanangon axle splines so its a direct replacement part with a bonus of some added cv angle articulation.
The 944 cv's have smaller balls inside that allow this added angle articulation.
This added angle is helpful in applications where the van ride height has been lifted.
KEEP IN MIND :
the 944 cv's and axles as stated are great for a reasonably built van .
They are not a substitute for applications that should have the heavy duty 930 axle's installed.
944's are not for extremely heavy or extremely lifted applications.
Its basicly a free upgrade when replacing the stock axle where it fell a little short in performance.
BTW :
BMS has the best 930 kit on the market at the best price for quality of parts and engineering included in the kit.
The BMS 930 kit has superior engineering that keeps the cv bolts tight .
The other kits on the market suffer from cv bolts that continually come loose when installed on heavy vans.
Cv bolts coming loose at the wrong time could be lethal , not to mention a real downer on your family outing. _________________ Protect your investment !

A group buy would allow us enough parts to make a batch in raw aluminum finish that you guys could have custom anodized or powder coated any color.
Or if enough people wanted aluminum color we could have that batch clear anodized. _________________ Protect your investment !

It's out!
We have grabbed a bull by the horns with this one! In our latest newsletter, we describe our bushings and heim joints, what to look for and why, when and where they are needed, and our concerns with other-brand bushings. This has been a hotly contested debate on The Samba, and we hope to clear everything up in this article.
Happy Trails FOREVER!
If you are interested in reading the article in its entirety, along with other articles and BMS special coupons, for the next 7 days we will retroactively send out the newsletter to anyone who is interested:

I signed up as well. I do have a question about the 944 cv joint kits. What boots come with those kits? Are the bolt flanges bonded or clamped? How are they holding up. Thanks for supporting the hobby. Mark _________________ ☮️ |

Hi Mark , That's awesome , we'll forward this months news letter to you
The boots are made for us so its our own private label brand , we spent 2 years working with a factory and testing these boots , joints and axles.
We have over 40K test miles on our axle assemblies ( and other new parts offerings ) without issue , testing includes some off roading at Moab
The boot is factory crimped to the flange.
We have tried to cover all the bases on the 944 axle situation.
With the oem VW axles getting older we are now seeing broken axle shafts so we also offer brand new bare axles for those folks that want to build up their own axle assemblies with the cv joints and boots of their choice.
BMS 944 axle offerings :
944 complete axle assemblies
944 cv joint w/boot kit
944 cv boot kits
944 bare axles
All at affordable prices _________________ Protect your investment !
