I'm probably going to get a Mofoco 1914cc motor with 042 heads and dual 44 Webers. Does anybody have any prior experience with Mofoco? Are they reliable motors? _________________ '74 Super |

Invest in a NEW engine case and counterweighted crank. I've used Mofoco for 30 years and have close to 60 of their engines out there. I've had two bad ones one my fault, one theirs and they took care of their problem. _________________ Midwest Autosavers, Inc. Woodstock, IL |

I bought a short block from MOFOCO that was missing 1/2 of a rod bearing and 2 rods were installed upside down. Years later I purchased a complete 1600 and it locked up before I could drive the car.
I do know a few people that have actually had their MOFOCO engine run long enough to drive the car and haven't had any issues.
There are some good engine builders on the east coast that I would check into if i were you. _________________ Jerry...

I too had a bad experience with Mofoco.. bought a longblock from them that didn't last 1200 miles. The lifter bores wer so sloppy that oil pressure was never up to par. Immediately after start up I realized oil pressure was low and called Bruce and he said it would be fine... well it wasn't and soon developed a rod knock. His response at that point? High performance, no warranty! Stock 1600 with a 100 cam. That was 12 years ago maybe more and I will NEVER go back. I'd look elsewhere if I were you. _________________ Southside Buggistas VW & kit car club

It will only be as reliable as the parts and machining that went into it. Goes for any motor.
Good balancing is key to longevity and easy to tune too.
If the factory tolerances are followed in the build (new or used), the motor will be fine.
New parts are new parts. Can't beat that. But if you have to re-use the case, then get a really good alignbore job. If you don't all kinds of bad things will happen.
Good luck. |

Please use the search function on here to check us out. You will find the 99% of anything negative is all said by about 1% of our customers. Also, like one person said, he had a problem 12 years ago and there are only 3 holdovers from 12 years ago, my dad(the owner), me and his partner Dave. Please let me know if you have any other specific questions. Oh, one other thing, our 1914 prostreet is built with all new parts, including the case. |

The 1600 I was referring to, was only 3 years ago. _________________ Jerry...
