Has anyone ever heard of an off road golf? A few months ago I saw a picture of one that was somewhere in Europe but I can't find it anymore.
It came from the factory built like that (no one bajaed it out). It had a roof rack, a lift, off road wheels, and 4x4....
It looked sick. |

Nope, not the tiguan
thats it! Golf Country.
and according to 4wdonline.com they only made 7,735 Golf Country Syncros in 1991, so it looks like it's factory, but uncommon

For those of us who've never played any sort of golf other than mini golf... I googled "slice + golf" and found
Definition: A type of shot in which the ball curves in the shape of a banana - starting out to the left of the target and then bending dramatically back to the right of the target (for a right-handed golfer; reverse for left-handed golfers). Because of the shape of the slice trajectory, the slice is sometimes colloquially called the "banana ball." A slice is rarely played intentionally, and is the most common mis-hit of amateur golfers.
After understanding what a slice is oktr6r,
I laughed
Thanks everyone thats been driving me nuts! What a sweet ride. |

Had a Golf Country a few years ago. It was a funny car to drive. The same as a normal golf syncro only the body was lifted and it had a lower end drive.

It was build only in 1990 and 1991. The Country was not build in the VW Factory. The factory build the Golf CL syncro and they transported those to the Steyr Factory in Austria. They "rebuild" the Golf CL syncro to the Golf Country by lifting the body the same way as the body of a beetle is lifted.

OK OK, so I have to admit wikipedia isn't always right... still a bad ass car, and semi-factory built, i guess the 1986-1992 covers the syncro part and in 91-92 they got lifted... what ev.
mikegyver: I can't find any for sale either and if you found one in the USA i'd be suprised since they only made 7700+/- of them. _________________ (o=|=o) Life before play... Damn! it's gonna be awhile. |

I went looking for a cheap running golf last night and found one for $250 around the corner on craigs list but it was just sold. Once / if I get one of the 2x4 golfs Ill end up making a few aesthetic changes to it...
weld a roof rack
weld a spare tire rack for the back
weld a bigger front end bumper
lift it
maybe put off road tires if i can find some cheap
I can pretend I have a golf country
Thoughts? Opinions? I would have no qualms tearing up a $250 front wheel drive car in some easy off road trails
... it isnt a bad daily driver either |

I drove one of those Golf Syncros arround Europe for a few months. It was a great car to drive in the snow, and mud. I always wondered why they did not bring them over here? There were a few Countrys arround the mountain towns where I stayed in Germany, and you saw a lot of them in Austria France, and Northern Italy. Seemed that people really liked em! _________________ "VIVA" Tequilla!!! |

There are plenty of Mk1 and Mk2 watercooled VW's with lifts installed using mostly stock parts. For example using Mk2 struts and springs will yield a 2-3" lift on a Mk1 Rabbit. Add some larger tires and you can have 10" under the vehicle. Same logic applies for the Mk2 using Mk3 etc parts.
Gearing changes are available too including limited slip units. Skid plates are available or you can fab your own. And you can use the 100mm cv's from the later Mk2's in the same way the Type 1 folks do.
Here is one link that will give you some ideas:
