This is my very first type 3. It's a 63' Notch built in Dec. of 62'. It's mostly original, rust free, accident free, but it is missing a few lil' things here and there. It has all 5 date matching 12/62 type 3 wheels & hubcaps and still has bias ply tires! The odometer has 59,000+ miles on it and supposedly the original mileage. It appears to have never been hit but the gas tank is pushed forward but does the job for now so I'll replace it later. It's been painted in primer unfortunately and I would love to know what it looked like prior. Most everything works and it does run finally but not well. Someone completely removed the choke assembly but thanks to myrhd65 I have another side draft for it! I still need to locate a choke element so if anyone has one please pm me. I will probably be asking a lot of questions but I will try to put it all here. The rear seat bottom is hard to take in and out, are they different from each type 3? Also, the front seats have the stripped pattern material under some black covers, is that correct? I want to keep this thing original with the exception of being 12v and putting some wheels on it. I may be getting rid of the stock wheels if anyone is interested as well. Here are some pics......This is how I got it and it will be getting raised!

Looks like a start. I would leave the ride hight the same. But would see if the primer will come off and have good OG paint under neath.

They say in the Bodywork Forum you can use Easy-Off Oven Cleaner to remove primer/paint.

I have some of that, I use it to strip anodizing though. I guess I could try it on a small section.

Plasti-master paint remover
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

i used Plasti on one side of my fasty
and i believe Mason-master on the other

there is
Plasti
multi
and
mason

I would prefer Plasti-master

and i used a red scothpad

Use the roughest skotchpad without going Metal
and i just sprayed it on the
Whole panel i was working on and
as i was working back i sprayed over again

when i got to the end
there wasnt even touch up

just a quick spray and wipe to get the residuals

Reminds me of my car that I sold a few months back, http://www.vw1500.com/members/fisher63/fisher63.htm

I'm sure the VIN's are pretty close. I'm a little weary on the 59k og milage but who knows. Just enjoy what you have.

If you use the oven cleaner, look out it will eat through all the paint if your not careful.

I wondered that, I'm not even going to bother with it. I found out the front fenders have been replaced, the decklid is off a 64' Notch, and there is a small amount of bondo on the roof. I will leave it be until I'm ready to paint it.

That is a beautiful car. Bring back the OG paint if you can and raise it a little. Maybe not stock height, but an inch or so. It'd ride better.

I want to but the front fenders have been replaced and are originally red, the decklid is off a 64' Notch and it's sea blue so there's no point unfortunately.

Sure there is. If the rest of the paint is good, have the fenders and decklid painted to patch. You save money on a paint job and you get to enjoy the OG color.
