|
|
Of course nobody can realistically value a vehicle by what people with more money than brains buy them for but it's going to be entertaining to see how these do at Barrett Jackson.
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlines...01/14/2009 Lot#615 (you have to search it yourself, no direct links available)
A nice looking (from the pics) 73 Helsinki, claims to be unrestored but the swing link on the slider door has paint on it and the marker lights are wrong for a european bus. Anybody in Scottsdale that can have a look at the M plate?
And on Friday there's this 69 Westy (lot 934) with a "custom stainless interior", they don't offer any pics of the interior but the tires look interesting. Looks a bit like sxuxrxf's bus.
The splitty's have been strong so far, it'll be interesting to see how the bay's go. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Best topic title ever!
Anyways... $19,900 for a bus with some cheesy interior, aftermarket muffler and an air horn?? No thanks...
If people want bays to start selling as much as splits they better start doing impeccable restorations!! Like this:
I'd pay $20,000+ for that... if I had $20,000+ to burn!! _________________ '73 Transporter 1.7L Dual Carb

I would not pay $1,900, let alone $19,900 for a bus with that cheesy exhaust.
If they short cut on the exhaust, what else did they short cut on.

Where I'm sitting right now is one mile from Barrett-Jackson and those other collector auctions. I've actually never attended. Our local classified section under "Antique Autos" really swells up this time of year. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Second owner of each. 1988 Mazda B2200 truck, 1998 Frontier, 2014 Yukon, 2004 Frontier King Cab. All manual transmission except for the Yukon. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335294 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335297 |

Roll up infront of the country club with that, you'll get more looks for the $ than new boobs on the trophy wife, one has to make sacrifices in these troubled economic times. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

This one I think sold for a more realistic price than the one for $20,000
It sold for $12,100
You can search for it on the Barrett Jackson website, lot number 615 or just double click on the picture to show it larger

That couldn't possibly be a louvered engine lid, could it? Oh my!
Anyone have a listing of the VW lot numbers? That website isn't the greatest.
I have a ticket for today but am going Sunday instead. Too busy getting my bay ready for the Scottsdale Pavillions show Saturday. If anyone is in town for Barret-Jackson, or the other auctions, be sure and get down to the Pavillions in the afternoon or evening. Probably will be close to 1,500 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars, etc. It's a weekly year round show but during the B-J week it gets crazy. We had some nice VeeDubs last Sat. and they always get a lot of attention. There might not be as many busses around town because of the big Busses by the Bridge weekend fling.
Maybe around 4 miles south of the B-J facility on the 101 at Indian Bend road. Stop by and say hi. A recent addition to our usual gang and VW assortment is one fine Fridolin. Someone said there are 5 in the country and this one is the finest. I wouldn't want the owners selling it but it would sure be intersting to see what it would bring on the auction block.
Bays are gaining in popularity. Seems like there are getting to be more of them used in commercials. And surprisingly, I'm running into more and more bug and splitty people saying they're thinking about getting a Bay. The final overall prices at the auction will be interesting. Maybe the old rich dudes will start buying them for their skinny women. _________________ 71 Superbug

Those crome "exhaust tips" are what drove the price up, o they forgot to add the truck running lite to the mud flaps and they have to burn at nite!!! |

For my money.... it's LOT 698, the $60,500 '66 bus with an '81 Vanagon interior.... or maybe a nice new Hummer.....holy crap.

Those exhaust pipes are hideous. They sit way too low it looks like it have something water cooled in it judging by the vents in the engine cover. That split on there is knarly i'd rock that in a minute. Walrus that bus pick looks like one that a friend of mine had till the DEA took all his shit and sent him to prison. It was flawless and original and he was a aircooled wizard, I'm gonna miss ya joe. _________________ 1985 Westy
