"Marnie Hose" I don't remember that. Who used it: Tippi Hendren or Sean Connery? _________________ 1987 Wolfsburger

I have been using this stuff for repair sections and full replacements for several years. The required length depends on year and model. 18 feet will do a 2.1. You need a couple more feet for 1.9 and diesel. I like 1 1/4" inner diameter for all full replacements. Do not buy the type with big distinct ribs on the outer surface!

You also need some short couplers to attach hose to hose at each end. I get mine from here. To use the above hose to replace plastic pipes you need 1 1/2" X 1 1/4" times 4. To replace metal pipes use 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" times 4.

One bad experience to report.
Unknown brand, but had the reiforced, spiral steel layer.
It must have been in the van for a long time.
All of the ends that showed the metal where it was cut to fit had deteriorated and the hoses started to weep at each connection.
That is when it came to me for service.
I recommend rubber or silicone hoses.
The owner opted to run the van as is....1500 miles later lost one of the main connections at hiway speed and overheated his motor
I have two Syncros with all hoses replaced with silicone, hardlines replaced with custom bent RMW pipes, sealant at each connection and stainless T bolt clamps.
Not a drip, drop or bubble for over 75k miles. |

Good to know, all my vans are all season drivers and I have concerns about the elements getting to the ends and doing just that. |

On the 85 had to cut off the rusted (couple feet) ends of the longitudinal steel pipes and spliced in marine exhaust hose
Held up for at least 5 years of Minnesota winter. Used brass plumbing connections to tee back into original at engine.
The hose is pretty impressive, got mine at a local supply house, it was a name brand hose manufacturer, cant remember now. Withstand exhaust and high temp in marine environment, it did just fine on the bottom of the bus. |

One of my vans has the marine hose completely replacing both of the main coolant pipes. About 10 years so far.

I had to pound the steel end of my plastic hose in (for the second time.) _________________ 1987 Westy Auto Bostig 2.0 Ztec |

I've only had to pound my ends once, but I epoxied them back.
but I believe i'm living on borrowed time, Bus depot sells a stainless pipe kit for $280, the marine hose with connectors would be about 200 with connectors and stuff buying the hose from the link above.
I'm not trying to be cheap here but I like the idea of having something more flexable, and thats why I went with it in the first place.
I think this all depends on the type/brand of hose used...and it sure is easy to replace. |

I use only smooth hardwall type with wire reinforcement. I have used Gates, Shieldsflex, and generic from Ebay made in Italy. I will have to crawl under and try to see anything more about the one in the driveway. This place sells it for a good price in 12 foot lengths. Their shipping calculator is messed up though.

We added 1 or 2 SS rivets thru the plastic & metal sleeve under where the rubber would clamp. they've never moved.. but it's only bee a few years now... so time will tell.

There is something wrong with their online shipping calculator. If you order one piece it says $29 shipping, but for 2 pieces $82. It should be more like $20 for 1 and $40 for 2. I would call and see what is up, or at least make 2 separate orders rather than get reamed like that.

Your in Ocean City, I have to believe you have a marine supply store that can get the shieldsflex 2 for you. I found it locally for about $200, it came in 2-12' sticks that were more then enough for any engine combo.
You'll need some connectors- size will depend on year-
http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Parts_Cooling_TransHoseSplicers.html
these guys can make whatever you need and have most of it in stock.
I just finished my install this winter and found it to be quite easy. Cutting the mid frame is not hard or complex, and you could realistically do the job with the fuel tank in. _________________ 82' Westy running on WVO!
