Does anyone know where you can find the fabric jooles has shown in his picture? I've been to the West Coast Classics website and there doesn't seem to be a match. _________________ 68 Ghia Regatta Blue Convertible

Looks like the fabric in my 54
It was apparently from Himmelservice and was bedford cord.
Not seen on there wed sight though?? They list favrics as export??
These are German market so maybe there is more to choose from.
Lenny at West Coast Classic can probably sort it out for you.

It look to me that most cars in Europe got clothes, and many cars in the States have vinyl. |

Is that color red or orange? Like brick red?
I had a 1957 Convertible with a dark gray exterior and an off red interior, but I don't recall it looking this orange?

Early 1955 Body Sedan Chassis No. 1-0781885
No changes were made to the VW body, yet. Early ’55 VWs were identical to ’54 models.
~Standard model seats from 1954 appeared with no change. The Gray (P117) color cloth upholstery pattern from October 1952, modified with better materials in 1954, was continued for 1955.
~All Deluxe model seats were continued from 1954 with no changes in early ‘55. Cloth upholstery came in Slate (P122), Green (P123) and Beige (P124).
Early 1955 Body Convertible Body No. 20901 Chassis No. 1-0781885
The 1955 VW Cabriolet appeared in January ‘55. Cabriolets were called Convertibles in the US.
Early 1955 Body Sedan Chassis No. 1-0823605 March 1955
~New exterior body paint colors were available; see the late 1955 color charts.
~New gray green napped carpeting (Code T108) appeared in some sedans.
~Three Deluxe model cloth upholstery colors were deleted in February 1955; Slate (P122), Green (P123) and Beige (P124). They were replaced in March ’55 with Blue (P125), Gray (P126), Rust Red (P127) and Green (P128).
~Deluxe model leatherette upholstery colors were changed. Gray (K118, Green (K140) and Red Beige (K155) were eliminated in March 1955 while Gray (K152), Tomato Red (K159), Red (K168), Dark Green (K170) and Light Beige (K171) were added.
Note: Early 1955 VWs assembled up to chassis number 1-0869850 were almost identical with 1954 models.
~Front bumpers, turn signal combinations and tail lamps have to be observed on all 1955 Deluxe VWs.
Mid 1955 Body Sedan & Convertible Chassis No. 1-0869851 US Market May 1955
New body parts appeared on US market cars only.
~New front and rear bumpers, bumper over riders, over rider bows and braces were introduced into the US market. Late 1952 style bumper guards were so low that typical American car bumpers passed right over them, contributing, with some degree of regularity, to front and rear lid damage. Many early VW front and rear lids were replaced, usually with later superceeded parts. That’s one reason why old lids are so scarce. The new over rider guard design remedied this situation somewhat.
~Mid ’55 VWs retained Trafficator semaphores.
~The Standard VW was unchanged throughout the model year.
~A new front apron (111805591A) was used; it had two circular holes cut out over top of the regular bumper bracket slots. New round rubber grommets (111707199) were buttoned into these holes.
~A new rear apron (111813301A) containing two tailpipe cutouts appeared.
~A new sedan (111827025D) and a Convertible (151827025B) rear engine lid appeared without the old triangular toggle spring mounting plate; it was exchanged for a rectangular style plate. The “folded bug wing” impression remained. A new toggle spring (111827331A) was designed. The crease running into the license lamp was softened somewhat.
~A modified license number lamp (111943111A) appeared without the speed line crease that matched the one removed from the rear lid.
~New left (111821305D) and right (111821306D) rear fenders appeared without the locating holes cut through for the tail lamp gasket and the bulb holders. The fenders were now smooth in this area. Holes were provided for the new bumper over rider support bars to pass through. Round rubber grommets (111707199) were pressed onto each fender before the brace was passed through.
Note: Midyear 1955 Beetles produced from this chassis number carried 1956 style bumpers, 1955 front fenders without flashing turn signals, 1956 style rear aprons with dual tail pipes and 1954 US style tail lamps with Dark Red convex plastic lenses and no “heart” lenses. Many were converted to the late style as time passed by.
Late 1955 Body Sedan & Convertible Chassis No. 1-0871207 US Market May 1955
~The M22 factory option package, flashing turn signals, replaced directional semaphores on US market cars.
~New left (111809085B) and right (111809086B) quarter panels appeared on sedans in the US market. The semaphore slots were removed. These quarter panels were short lived, replaced for the soon-to-appear 1956 model year.
~The semaphores were removed from Convertibles, each new left (151809051B) and right (151809052B) quarter panel’s metal box was eliminated; there was no trace of them; quarter panels were now solid in this area. These panels were also short lived, replaced again for 1956. Any late ‘55 or newer Beetle with semaphores was never intended for the US market. Home market cars were fitted with semaphore signals through the end of the 1960 model year.
~New left (111821021E) and right (111821022E) front fenders were designed with turn signal lamp mounting points.
~Low mounted “bullet” style turn signal housings were installed on all US model VW Beetles; see the electrical section for 1955.
~New larger tail lamp assemblies appeared on the rear fenders. A bright metal trim ring was clamped into each housing. Dark Red lens/reflectors were used. Flashing turn signals were incorporated into the new lamps. Tail lamps were mounted low on the rear fenders.
~The new over rider bows partially blocked the tail lamps at this time. Tail lamps were not relocated higher until the 1956 model year.
Note: Late 1955 VWs looked like 1956 models at first glance, but a closer look revealed the facts.
1955 models still had the large fuel tank, the old style doors with the raised ridge surrounding each interior door panel and the old front seats containing only two seams. Front seat backrests were not adjustable, the seat tracks were parallel to the floor and the new tail lamps were very low. Many body panels used since late ‘52 were going to be changed for the 1956 model year.
Late 1955 Body Sedan Chassis No. 1-0929745
This was the last 1955 model year VW sedan assembled in August 1955. The factory took advantage of the now-standardized West German summer vacation period to switch over to the model-year system like that in use in the United States and other countries.
Late 1955 Body Convertible Body No. 24510 Chassis No. 1-0929745
The last 1955 VW Convertible was built in August 1955. |

This is my original doorpanel bedfordcord stratosilver June 54. Note that above the chrome strip it's all done in leatherette blue-gray. Cloth is faded to
beige again, I guess they just colored the beige ones blue-gray.
The back side panel does not have this feature. |

Hello Fabbe,
Mine seems to have the same upholstery than yours (strange regarding the fact that my car is a standard one, but I know the interior is the wrong one).
I think you will find what you need from himmelservice.de.
Moreover, how do you plan to renew your interior? (seat pads, who will do the work) I plan to do the same job in a couple of year timeframe. |
