The day I got the car:
Tonight:
Look where the seats sit in relation to the ebrake. Gives a good idea of how worn out they were. Again, 16 broken springs in the drivers seat. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

My friend John (of John's aircooled auto) came down from MA. He not only helped me install an 034, he took 3 apart and built me a good one. It's like a new car. It runs better at idle, drives better, even sounds better. Couldn't be happier and can't thank him enough. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Thank you. Took the Ghia out today. Drove it about 60 miles or so. It's amazing how much better it drives now. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Just realized I forgot to update the thread when I finally added the missing dash bottom a few months ago.
Also added back the aluminum strip on the back parcel tray. I ordered 2 yards of the correct vinyl and am going to recover the mismatched vinyl.

I was just asking because Sean is a friend of mine, but I really don't know what all VW vehicles he has had through the years. Just curious, that's all. _________________ Mike

5 Bugs, 3 Ghias, and a Thing that belongs to my wife.
Owned them in the following order:
1. 1984 Mexican Beetle
2. 1969 original paint standard bug
3. 1971 red Super Converible
4. 1966 Karmann Ghia Coupe
5. 1974 Karmann Ghia Coupe
6. 1972 Super Beetle
7. 1971 Karmann Ghia Coupe
8. 1967 Beetle
And finally
9. My wife's 1973 Thing. There will be more eventually. The 67 is killing me slowly. I'll never get rid of the Ghia. Too sentimental. The Thing will be around a long time too. It's a fun car. Would love a Bus or a 914, 356, 911 etc. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Just saw this thread, am so glad I found it. I'm just starting to fix up my Dad's old '68 CV...he too has promised it to me for 30+ years. She's spent the last 5-6 years outside through NE Pennsylvania winters, so I have my work cut out for me. |

Cool. I'd love to follow your progress. You have a build thread? How bad is the body? _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I don't have a build thread, no..I'm just getting started. Just got new tires and am trying to get the seats out (seem rusted in).
Body needs the usual...new floor pans, rocker panels and supports, and heater tubes. Other than that its OK (could be worse). Interior needs a re-do, seats are original but uncomfortable as all hell as you must understand. Mechanically she has always started and run well. I'll replace wiring and brake systems and she needs a new top.
Was my Dad's first "new" car...bought for him by my mom when she was pregnant with me in April '68. So aside from the aesthetic value, its why I'll never let it go.
Anyone here have preference for thickest pans available? Quarters or halves? |

I bought Ghia pans for my wife's Thing last year from CIP last November. They are of pretty good quality and close to OE thickness. Gerson is now making early Ghia pans that are of great quality but I don't know what year they fit. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980
