I'm headed to Santa Fe this weekend for a telemark clinic. Anyone know if camping is allowed in the ski area parking lot? Other recommendations?

For that matter, has anyone compiled a list of ski areas in that allow camping?
Thanks
Steve

I bet Jon_Slider could help you answer these questions. I think he calls Santa Fe home.

I am not sure about camping in the parking lot, but there are a couple N.F. Campgrounds on the way up the mountain. They are right off the side of the raod...can't miss them.

Ski Santa Fe has generally been pretty easy about parking lot camping so long as you're not in the way of snow removal operations. There is a lower lot, way at the bottom of the loop, where you would probably have the least trouble. Also, as bunker said, there are a couple stops on the ski area road that are Nat'l Forest picnic areas where camping shouldn't be a hassle. One is at Big Tesuque, so if you hitch up the last couple miles, then ski the Big T at the end of the day you can ski right back to your van! Be sure to check with the Patrol regarding closures of the Big T before you hinge your plans around that idea. Big T is out of bounds but the Patrol has say-so regarding entry.

The tele clinic, eh? Say hi to Tony from me!

Yeah I figured Jon Slider would chime in - he is conspicuous by his absence.
Thanks Bumper, fngruvn and tencent for your input. I was wondering how far those campgrounds were from the ski area. I've camped at one of those but I've never driven to the top - only been up to the top on Windsor trail by bike.

Tencent - sounds like you've done the tele festival before - I'll say hi to Tony for you.

Well, they were just clinics back then. Tony is the best, you'll have a lot of fun. Tell him Chris who used to 'trol Santa Fe sez hi. He won't remember by just my name, but if he saw me he would.

nice to see my name mentioned in good company, thanks

just got back to Santa Fe last night

will be happy to share ideas, you can call me, 505-690-5468

Yes you can camp at the ski area, I would use the lot near Windsor trail, there is a bathroom there, or if you want you can camp at my house and use the shower.

I think the idea of sleeping at Big Tesuque is great, but with the lack of snow currently, I dont recommend dropping Big T. I do it multiple times per day, but not with these snow conditions..
