Here is another one of my creations, personally assembled for Mike C. of Texas. He is thrilled and can hardly wait to install this beast into his 1954 Sunroof Beetle. If I remember correctly, He already has Porsche 356 "A" brakes installed. He is going to need them! This engine is ready to ship, soon to be enjoyed by it new owner. See this entire engine build at: http://ImageEvent.com/mrokrasa/porscheenginebuilds/mike195436hpokrasa Enjoy photos.

It's in series with the bypass oil filter.
The stock cooler is in the shroud.

Is there ever an engine overheating problem with the hot copper coil preheating the cooling air to the motor? The motor looks great!! _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

Hello-
Now that you've got are attention, will you provide some details about the engine (bore, stroke, cam, special tricks, dyno data, etc.)?
It looks like you have a larger than stock pickup tube. If you don't mind, how big is it?
Thanks,

I have my suspicions that this could have an effect when running the cooling spiral on a supercharged engine...although no specific data to back it up.
Just to contradict myself I ran with the cooling spiral on my Judson 36hp set-up for 4 years and experienced no problems...but I can't help thinking.
On a twin carb set-up I would be happy to go with it...Okrasa obviously did their homework on this back in the day and the period tuning manuals recommended them. _________________ John.

Those things remind me of those aftermarket coolers that people mounted in front of their fan shroud back in the day. I always thought it a bad idea, as the tubes were way fat meaning less surface area subject to cooling and then the idea of sucking in preheated air into your shroud also never made sense. The only mod I would make is to convert to a doghouse setup if that was ever available for 36hp.

What the cooling spiral is supposed to do is cool the oil but it would seem that placing the spiral in the airflow will inevitably raise head temperatures.
Yes it does in my experience cool the oil but then so too will adding a sump extension to carry an extra quart of oil without the danger of heating the airflow across the heads. _________________ John.

what about engine tin color? is that semi gloss? |
The tin is metal finished then powdercoated a "low gloss" black.
Cheers! Mr. Okrasa

Oh my god..... This has got to be one of the most beautiful engines i have ever seen. Good thing i finally noticed this "vintage speed" forum. Just out of curiosity.... what would a build like this cost?
