I just brought this home tonight! 1979, originally Beige, the top half is the original paint, someone mixed up a little bit darker shade and put it on the bottom half, then seperated it with an orange stripe.
It's in pretty decent condition, needs some work, but I drove it home. I've always wanted a pop top camper, and now I've got a 79, best year (in my opinion, others probably may not agree).
I'll be spending a lot of time in this forum now.
Driving it home:

Next to the Beetle, no more room in the garage now!

You're right, that's why I don't drive the Beetle in the winter. Won't with this one either.
There's rust above the fenders, a little around the bottom of the doors etc. I don't see any rust under the windshield. The sliding door appears solid, and I looked under it before I bought it, and everything appeared fairly solid. A P.O. had sprayed underbody at some point.
The guy I bought it from said he got it from a guy in Wisconsin, and that guy got it from Iowa. There's stickers on the windshield from Wisconsin 1986, so who knows where it's been. _________________ -Andy-

Sweet bus!!! Wish mine was a Westy. I do agree with you on '79 being the best year for a bus. _________________ 2019 Audi Q5

I think all Westfalias imported to Canada had the BA6 gas heater and the fresh air fans stock, but no stove......
Mine is just like that......
Mine speedometer is in KM too......makes it iffy on the US highways here...LOL...."Officer, I really dont know how fast I was going, i swear"
But, I love the gas heater and just use a coleman stove......works for me... |

Yup..the coleman stove takes the place of the lack of a stove inside. I just use it outside on a table and stock up on the little propane bottles. They actually last a long time though. _________________ 1979 Westfalia (Sage Green)

No stool, but it has the table that goes in-between the front seats and hooks to the dash. Also came with a 79 Bus owners manual and pages 5-28 of the Westfalia manual. The rest must have torn off and got lost.
I'll be slowly digging into it soon, there's no heat in my garage, and almost no room to work now. _________________ -Andy-

I was looking through what I have left from the Westy manual, and it looks like I'm only missing the Dining Table w/ leg that goes in front of the bed.
Took a couple pictures today.

CONTGRATS... that's a good looking bus and most of the lights work. Keep on that rust and she should go another 30 years. And, as I have a '79, amongst others over the years, I'd agree they are the "best". Of course there are many ways to describe best
Really the best ride I've ever had in a bus, probably because they are so heavy and have more sound insulation than some of the priors. Also, that FI engine delivers almost as much power as some of my supped up ones have.
