Never done that, but would tie a stout string to the brake line as you pull it out through the central belly pan. Then once the old brake line is out tie the string to the new brake line going in and carefully pull the new line through with the string while having someone help push the brake line toward you.
Have done simular routine when installing multiple wire cable through for gauges in a 1958 double door walk thru panel. Had to fish a coat hanger through first to run the string, and then pull the cable through.

The brake lines on belly pan busses run under the pans, so you can change every one of them without removing any sheet metal.

hm... I'll have to look at them again....I must have missed seeing them last time I was under there. There isn't really a leak, but being that they are 48 years old, it might be a good idea to get them changed out soon.

You can see the line on the right side. This photo is looking from front to back.

I would think that there are hangers along the way to prevent the brake lines from vibrating. If there isn't there should be!

Glad I searched before posting a new topic. I was wondering how I was going to do the brake lines on my '57 Standard....

Yes, there are little holders on my '55 23.

Gerson's center belly pans have 'em. The pans on my '57 don't because Kelly and I fabricated them long before God sent us Gerson. I'm going to have to improvise by concealing the screw head that fastens each holder behind the brake line itself.

I am presently replacing 65 deluxe belly pans with KF made belly pans. I know the hard brake line runs on the outside of the center pan on the drivers side up aginst the flange but...I swear that 3 years ago when I removed the OG pans the hard line was held on with metal clips that were screwed to the flange. Now when I lay under a friends OG 59 DD panel his has small 1/2"x 1" long tabs welded to the center pan an folder over the hard line. Did they change the tabs when they went to shorter pans or is my memory just burnt and they were welded on tabs all along?

Anyone have a picture of 64-67 style belly pan brake line attachment?
I will be welding on the KF pans this weekend and need to know if I should weld on tabs or screw on tabs.

Thanks.

Roy, the line isn't screwed to the pans at all, there should be tabs about 3/4" long that just wrap around the tubing to hold it in place. I think 4 holders are pinched in to the metal belly pans.
I've seen your metalwork, it may take you 10 minutes to punch them in if you see a pic of them.
Unreal job on your skylight fabbing by the way!

Roy's metalwork and fabrication skills are incredible! He came over and checked out my original '59 DD panel belley pans today and was just wondering about the changes to the later pans in '65 thru '67. His 21 window Bus will be awesome! I'm hoping that he'll be able to debut it at the upcoming BNNTA event on Labor Day. All of us locals will be jumping on the re-assembly of it all summer. He has a thread on it on the Air-Cooled Missouri site...

Thanks to anyone who can send a few photos of the later pan brake line mounting details.

Bill

Hi Bill, could you post a pic of the tabs and detail the positions? I have pre-tab Gerson pans to go on again one day.

Here's my '65's keeper-a-rookus'. Looks to be done during the stamping in the die with a cutter. Then the tab is ready to wrap around the brake line without an additional step. Rolling Stones stole their logo from me.

Bill's 59 DD panel has 4 strips of metal 1/2" wide and 1" long that are tack welded to the pan then folded over the line.

But...my OG pans do have 4 small arched holes (I thought were drain holes because the tabs are gone) like that picture so thats how I'll make them.
Figure I'll make a die and punch to duplicate that brake line tab doodad.

Thanks for the props, info and picture guys...so close to paint time I can almost taste it.

BTW...Jerry, what is your build thread titled on the Full Moon Bus Club?

Well...I'm a dumbass...my rusty OG pans had one those tabs. Normally OG belly pans have (4) tabs punched in them for retaining the hard brake line to the rear. I made a punch & die from cold rolled steel. Punched tabs into the Klassic Fab center pan that was missing them.

Enjoy!
