Wow, I've known Bruce for about 3 years. I didn't realize so many peeps are unhappy with him. I found him here in San Diego and was able to go to his shop to see my options on getting my 64 bus lowered and able to stop. He has been honest and super helpful. The first gearbox I purchased from him was great, except for the axle leaked. Yup, it took a month and a few gasket replacements, partly due to my schedule and partly due to his. Not once did he ever try to shy away from the problem. I have bought another gearbox, rims, beam and a few disk brake kits. All spot on. As for a bunch of these complaints, half of them sound like its in shipping stuff gets messed up. Yeah, that sucks, and maybe a better shipper would solve some of it, but unless its a trailer queen, the suspension parts are gonna get dirty and scratched a bit on installation. Sucks others have had bad experiences, but I'll recommend this guy all day. |
Better check your brakes, this is what he has sold to two of my clients now, that came to me after buying his trash.
so you understand what is wrong in these pictures. He is tack welding steel flat bar to the back of brake pads to space them out far enough to allow the pads to connect with a rotor that is too thin. The calipers are designed for a .81 thick rotor and he is installing them onto .38 thick rotors. When the tack welds break the pads will fall apart causing the brakes to fail. If they don't fall apart and your lucky enough to wear them down with out over extending the pistons you'll need to do the same crap to replacement pads. There is a reason they are not made this way at wilwood.
the other photos of the hub is how he studs a hub from 5 on 112mm to a 5 on 114mm hub. The studs fell out and the wheel when installed went up and down like a clown's bicycle wheel.
This guy is putting people's lives in danger, so please check your brakes if you have a set of his. This is not a joke!
The last picture are some cheap wheel spacers he installed on the same bus to make the wheels fit. Why not buy the spacers for the correct lug pattern. Also it is dangerous to stack wheel spacers like he did on this car, it will lead to the wheel coming loose.

Ripped me off for $500 for VW parts. Paid in full for parts and shipping. Never received the parts and would not answer my calls or emails. Reported to BBB.
Stay far away from this merchant. |

Do not buy anything from this guy. I purchased a complete "Dump My Bay" suspension kit for my 1971 Bus from Bruce. I had a shop install the kit and the first problem was one of the adjusters cracked. Contacted Bruce and he did send another adjuster, that cracked too. The only way we could get it to work was to weld a bracket over the adjuster to keep it in place. My "adjustable" beam is no longer adjustable. The second problem was with the horseshoe's for the rear. I'm driving on the freeway and I hear a loud "BANG". I pull over to the side of the road and the driver side rear wheel has about 30 degrees negative camber. I flat tow the bus home, jack it up, and notice one of the bolts that came with the kit snapped, with the broken stud in the wheel bearing housing. I removed everything to remove the stud and notice the horseshoe is bent. I know the kit was installed properly, the kit is crap and don't expect any help from Bruce. |

Similar negative experience with a Bay front disc brake upgrade... figured Porsche and Wilwood parts, what could go wrong?
Shipment was incomplete and did not include pads, wheel bearings, spacers or caliper bolts! After six months plus of back and forth, still not one additional part shipped. One excuse after another. "your order is on the wall" WHAT? put the parts in a box and ship them!!
When we went to install the rotors it turns out the spacers supplied for the wheel bearings were cut from what looks like exhaust tubing with a hacksaw. Had to have new sets made locally.
Products are crap; customer service is unbelievably worse.
Look elsewhere if you value your safety and sanity. |

I have a bay window beam from vintage v-dubs, and i am disappointed. I have to admit it's decent craftsmanship/welding, but VERY poor design and engineering. Things don't fit, aren't in the right places/measurements etc.. and cause problems with functionality and installation. spend the extra money for the BETTER quality products is my recommendation |

I ordered $6100 worth of split bus lowering parts and a set of CSP front brakes from this clown back in late may. Nearly three months later I have received maybe $600 worth of my order. Complete joke, these people should be in jail. Bruce does not respond, the girl who answers the phone gives me the same story, can't believe I didn't do better research before throwing my money down the toilet. I sent a personal check so I don't think I have any recourse ??

Just called them - answered the phone "Gino". Asked if they were the same as VintageVeeDubs. He admitted the products came from VVW and then said: "..well, uh, I guess we are the new distributor for them..."
And yet they keep selling here. |
Yes, they told me they were a distributor when I saw this new user and contacted them earlier today.
I recommend they read the feedback thread and re-evaluate their arrangement. |
I am surprised he is still allowed to advertise on the samba |

Bought from him and it all worked out ...one time.
The second time well, he scammed us out of $3k worth of unsent parts, then
send the wrong parts that didn't fit, build quality is garbage so we ended up having to replace everything he did send. No response at all.
STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS GUY AS POSSIBLE.
We are a VW specialist shop, so he obviously does not give a crap about repeat business or good reputation. |

Here are a few pics from a guy I am trying to help out of his Vintage VeeDubs debacle. He spent over $7000 on front and rear baywindow suspension from Bruce. The rear was a complete mess, and there was ZERO way ANY wheel tire combo would go on. A stock wheel and tire was about 1" to wide to even fit inside the fender. The front he got as a complete assembled unit from bruce. Of course ZERO help, from VVD, and they will not answer phones, or return messages.
These spindles bent on the maiden voyage, driving 2 blocks on a side street, and never exceeding 20mph. And yes...the calipers came straight from Bruce with all of the washers stacked up like that. The rear end parts were even worse than this.
Rear end parts. Those crooked cut sleeves hardly welded on are supposed to be caliper brackets. And yes, he sent them out the door with only 2 threads of the lug studs holding on.
Be careful out there people. Don't send your hard earned money to this guy. _________________ www.type-emotorsports.com |
