Could I make a suggestion that a second thread be started to document the remainder of this build?

Seems like a good place to begin "Part 2"

Hello Doc,
the 38 is owned and restaured by my dad and he is funding this car himself.
When the car is ready it will of course remain in our museum - but we will take it to some shows ( Camberg,... )

Hi Christian,
That is great news Smile - I am so glad it wont become lost in a rich collectors private car museum somewhere in the world forever!

Looks like an aircraft prototype being wheeled out of the hanger.

I like how it is just floating in this photo... "levitating" like an Indian Guru.

It seems appropriate for this car to levitate like an ancient religious master.

It doesn't need to be driven or trailered to shows... it will just show up... magically...... like a vision... of a saint who simply appears out of nowhere.

well... maybe it will be driven... or not... who cares... but it will be a religious experience to see the born again beetle!

Now we must all bow down and be thankful to the VW gods for all they have blessed us with!

Ooooh, Eric, stop spraying paint and open some windows!!!! Smile

It looks like some Lithuanian Cal-looker welded up the exhaust cut outs. I hope they fix that before painting it. Wink

Hey,
Perhaps someone with some spare time could on the first page perhaps edit and add the restoration pics in chronological order all in one spot start to finish (perhaps a pic only sticky thread?)? might be alot of work but would be pretty cool to see the progress all together in order.

Same location, almost the same photo angle, yet what a difference! It really has gone a long way since April 2009.

Is the rear 1/4 glass original to the car? I noticed it in the video, I can't see any reason for it to be changed. Are there any markings or logos on the glass?

I don't recall seeing any markings on the glass, but I did not pay too much attention to it at the time. My guess is that the glass was homemade just like almost everything on this car.

So here's a question - how many of the VW38s are now accounted for, which means how many others "could" be in someone's backyard disguised as a russian frankenstein car?

Off topic, but what is the story with the Blue DB Coach in the background of the pictures?

VW38-006 HQ is on the edge of the railway in Hessich Oldendorf, the side track actually comes into the yard. There was a little diesel loco in there when I was there as well. Cool

The carriage is possibly where all of the NOS 38 stuff is kept Shocked Wink

It is a railway carriage with sleeping cabins.
It stands on their property and they let visitors sleep there in sometimes.
