Great piece of world history. Drive it and let the people see the "Peoples Car". Hopefully you can make a world tour. You have honored the Porsche family well with the resurection. Congradulations on a beautiful work of art and a job well done.

Did anyone notice the tiny bug crossing the road in video #2? Not sure he made it...

The pre '45 beetles are called KdF-wagens, check out www.vw38.de,the Grundmann site. Click on the "Überlebende KdFwagens" , They have compiled a list of all they know of. I count 37, most are in unrestored run-down state, but none are as bad as the vw 38/6 was. I am amazed not more owners put some effort into getting them up and running.

just got to say, if i had a kdf that was run down, i'd do almost nothing to it. I'd rather have one that's beat to hell and original (or not original, but still part of that car's history) than one that's been restored. In the case of the '38, it was in such bad shape and so non-original that i'd say it was definitely worth restoring, and they did an amazing job.

I agree to that, but still I would get it up and running. Most of the Kdfs are on blocks.

nice idea for the theoretics, but you have to think about the condition the KDF-beeles were Found. Actual we know round about 80 survivors and nearly all of them were hardly modified. There are maybe only 5 cars where you can thinkabout a carful and sensitive Conservation - all the rest got a larger petroltank inclusive the cutting of the ears, changing sheetmetall like Hoods and fenders or harder modifications.

Hi Bjoern, hi all,

I decided not to restore my KdF, which I bought in January 2010. We make it drivable and put a few of the original parts (like bumpers and taillights) on. The more we looked at the car, we found almost all original sheet metal including all fenders, hoods and even the running boards we found the original under some additional material.

I keep the KdF which was in storage of a VW Dealer in Pforzheim Germany with all the dents and scratches of its long life.

Have a Look at it at Bad Camberg!

I am also looking forward to See the VW 38. Well Done!

Richard
