Step 1 oval forum.
Step2. Carpet installation question.
Hopefully this will answer your question. _________________ .

Just had a full vert window frames set rechromed
Here in France, it costs 400 (500 $ ) for :
- dechroming
- polishing
- plating
- rechroming
Interested too for convertible seals feedbacks... |

Thanks "Soldeli" for letting us know what it cost for the re-chrome job in France! It'll be interesting to hear what that job costs here in the States, perhaps Tom will update this when he get's his California shop bill? I'll eventually be doing it on my '57 Kab somewhere here in the Midwest...

I'm thinking $500 is a deal, I hate to see what it cost here in California.
I'm wondering if it would be better to send them out of state, maybe get better quality chrome done then in California with all the EPA standards we have. _________________ F#CK CANCER

Thanks for help !!. |
I'd like one for my '56 convertible as well. I've reached out to Francisco at Kaefer Nostalgie to see if he can produce them. I'll let you know if I hear back. _________________ 1950 Pearl Grey Hoffman Standard Split Window

I don't know if I've asked about this before, but I'm thinking of buying a complete body seal/trim kit from Chucks Convertibles (any other vendor suggestions?) for my Jan 1957 Oval Kabriolett for abou $850. I assume that a few of you out there have previously purchased this kit too for your Kabriolett's. He says it's the best quality stuff (German door seals, the rest USA produced), and I'm looking for reviews from you out there who bought Chuck's set. Remarks about correctness, fit and finish, quality or any lack thereof of any of the parts/pieces, things that you had to alter/modify, completeness or missing items? You get the picture. Tell us of your experiences (or pm me). Thanks for your help!
If/when I do this, I'll be delighted to review whatever I buy for everyone's benefit.

All of my body and window rubber came from Wolfsburg West except for my vent window seals from Chuck. No complaints on any. Door seals are German from WW. My vert is a '63.

Here is the ID plate I have with the 1/15 stamping on it for the convertible.
I bought it several years ago in bad camberg vw meeting.
It is ready to be stamped with the VIN number. What do you think about the quality, is it close or far from an original one?
|
For the most part, the stamping looks crisp. But no mounting holes and the perimeter should have a round over, not flat like yours.
I'll see if i can dig up a pic. Edit:Here ya go.

Hi everyone. I'm looking into rechroming/replacing the rear quarter window frames on my '55 Kab. I'm a little confused on the variations on these window frames. Some clarification would help:
will all '55 to pre-'64 frames fit a '55?
the vertical seal between the door window frame and the quarter window frame slides into a vertical channel in the rear quarter window frame. This seems to vary in detail at the top, some frames are capped, others are open? Which years had which detail?
some quarter window frames seem to be chromed brass, others are chromed steel. The brass frames seem to weather better, but can crack? What years did they change material?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Ive struggled to find the info by searching on google... |

I also have a question about side windows. Okay, concerning the two left and right side roll-down quarter windows for our back seat passengers. There is a horizontal metal "moisture gutter" attached to and below the window frames (below the rubber outer window scrapers) that channel any water that gets past the rubber scrapers the water rearward to a short downward curved metal tube. Does the water just drop from the end of that metal tube into the interior of the quarter panel cavity and drain out somehow from the bottom of the cavity? My '57 Kab is packed full of stuff in storage so I can't immediately see how this works. Also, is there a rubber or plastic tube that attaches to the end of that metal drain tube, and if so, where does it go thru the body or chassis pan? An explanation would be helpful, photos even better to help understand what I'll need to do about this. Thanks for any assistance!
