Hi,
My VW parts book does not describe the type of screwdriver head ("standard" or "Phillips") those screws were, but does call out those four screws for a Kabriolett as:
N11 460 1 metal screw, countersunk head, S 3.5 x 13 mm long DIN 7973, high polish galvanized, four needed per Type 151 or 152
The three similar (but slightly thicker) screws that hold my 1955 Oval Sedan interior mirror assembly in place are "standard" screwdriver head:
N14 093 1 metal screw, countersunk head, S 4.2 x 13 mm long DIN 7983, high polish galvanized, three needed per Sedan
I suspect that the Kabriolett screws would also be "standard" blade headed screws.

My 1957 doesn't show any evidence of having had these grease-able hinge pins and covers. When was the last hinge cover for convertibles? I have two pairs of back-up doors from '57s that also do not have those grease-able hinges...

Yes, that sounds about right 56TIMOTEO. According to the book “The VW Beetle” by Ryan Lee Price, the grease nipples were dropped from the door hinges on all convertibles on October 23, 1956, Chassis 1326040. At the same time the outside mirror became standard equipment. |

Oh come on..just take off your door panel Thomas
Looks like its the passenger side. I know this type is correct for up to 60 at least. They got wider in the 60s to fit the wider deeper window frame tabs. One in pic is same one as my 58 and a little smaller than the one on my 63. |

FWIW - I have a couple of these, and the one I have right in front of me for my project '57 kabriolett has the special shaped chrome nut like you show on the left side.

Howdy all you Covid-couch huggers,
By any chance does anyone know of a source for a NOS or nice reproduction of the plastic opaque interior dome light "lens" for a Oval era Kabriolett? I've seen plastic originals, and I even think that there was a fancy glass lens that fit, not certain about that, but at any rate, such a simple shaped Kabriolett dome light lens should have been reproduced by now. I'd love to buy a spare lens.
I'd hate to see the stock incandescent 6 volt bulb heat up and warp a plastic lens (hence wanting a spare). As an alternative, has anyone used a modern LED torpedo bulb in their Kabriolett interior dome light assembly? I imagine that an LED bulb would:
1. last longer
2. run cooler to avoid heat build up if left on for too long
3. be brighter to boot!
Thanks for any leads on a source for a dome light lens! Stay happy, healthy and safe folks!
