I've heard and know the terms standard, deluxe, 1200, 1200A, 1300, 1301, 1302 and 1303, but in LHG's thread 1966 European standard what was OG a reply post by brycetx has a link to a list of VW advertisements.
My question is what is a 1200 custom ? because my 65 1200A has some custom appointments, but not all. In the picture the car has a full headliner and bright anodized window vents, chrome ft turn signal covers,
bright body side molding, deluxe bumpers with overriders and chrome hub caps. My car came with deluxe bumpers and bright body side molding and 1956-1959 deluxe type steering wheel and one fake fender horn cover and one fender open horn cover-both finished in chrome and chrome wheel covers.
Question two is could you have ordered a standard with some of the custom's appointments??
Question three, in the reply post by brycetx there is a another brochure for a 1300 and a 1300A. What is a 1300A ??

Check the thread in my post. When you see the advertisement it is printed in German for the 1300 Question.
So the question remains if a 111 is a 1200A and a 113 is a deluxe, the CUSTOM must still be a 111 with options-a SUBSET of type 111. That is the question I'm trying to figure out.
The 1300 question is a different story. for 1966 we have a 111 called a 1200A 40 hp. A 1300 50hp called a 113 and a 1300A. Could the 1300A be a standard with 1300cc option ?? I didn't think they made such a car. The designation reminds me of the 65. The 65 type 111 uses a 1200 36hp even though 1965 is the first year they call the standard the 1200A. The 65 rear deck lid is absent of script. If they put 1200 on the deck lid they would have confused things because the 113 deluxe is a 1200 also ( even though it's a 40hp. 1966 type 111 says 1200 on the deck lid (first year of the 1200 40hp)and the deluxe says 1300 on the deck lid. The picture is just a side view of the car so you can't see the deck lid but the car looks in every way a standard= very strange.

OK so it's rebadged by the dealer. What does the factory call it. Is it still a type 111?

They stopped producing VW1200 standards in august 1967, and sold a 1300 with 1200 engine instead, this was the 1300A. Due to the economy, they started the production of the old 1200 again in 68. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

Then why is the advertisement that I'm looking at a 1966 1300 deluxe and a 1300A standard. There is also a 1966 1200A for 1966. To me it looks like for 1966 we have:
1200A (former standard) 1200cc
1300A (looks like a former standard) 1300cc
1300 Deluxe. 1300cc

No, but there where a lot of optionpacks that didn't reach Norway.
I have a book that I bought in the mid-80's, called : Der käfer, Eine Dokumentation 1, writer is Etzold. It came in an english version later. It is a lot of good information in it (with dates and chassino. for modifications), but of course most for the european market ( the book is written by a german autor). 1200 A Custom is not mentioned, only 1200A. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

Kjells, Thanks for the information on the book and for your interest in the topic. In Canada you could order say a 1965 111 custom which has some of the deluxe appointments. My 65 111 1200A has some of those appointments but not all and was ordered by a American, picked up at the factory and driven through Europed for vacation and shipped back by VW from Hamburg to the port of Los Angeles Ca. U.S.A.
The owner had to change out the speedo (was in klm) windshield, rear tail lights. He had special ordered the car so he wouldn't have to do the afore mention. The things the factory did install for U.S spec. was the deluxe bumpers (for bumper height regulation) and seatbelts. The 36 hp. 1200A engine didn't even have a crankcase devise- just the old road draft tube. You can see the car on this forum Beetle 1958-1967 type in 1966 standard click on 1966 european standard what was og. go to page 3 and about 3/4 down Brian took some comparison photos of his 1966 1200A type 115 and my 1965 type 111 1200A.
