|
|
I am looking to give my 60 type 1 a more weathered look then it already has. The paint is in need of a new coat here soon, but until then i was really wanting to get the patina look more then it already has before i go to painting in a year or two. Basically i am wanting like the high spots on the car (where the sun hits it most) worn down alot...does anyone have any tricks on how to achieve the look I am wanting? Any help is welcomed and appreciated! |

HI,
Not really sure of the "why" but your car, do as you wish.
You want to get a supply of wet / dry paper, quite fine, 1000 grit maybe finer.
Put it on a sanding block, get a hose on a nice day and start sanding those areas you wish to "weather" Sand through the color layers until you hit primer, go to metal if you want some "patina". Fading paint is more difficult and some colors are resistant to it, others like red fade in a heart beat. You might selectively acid wash the paint with an acid, like battery acid, to etch the surface to let the sun in to do its work on your color. (insert all precautions about using acids here).
Scratch the paint to look like what happens in a parking lot, a few door dents, (get a buddy to come over with his car and park real close to you) and you are on your way.
Once it is weathered to your satisfaction either allow mother nature to continue the task or spray a flat clear coat on it to hold it where it is at.
Good Luck, most people wish to go in the opposite direction though! To each his own.

hey hey thanks for the info, i know it sounds crazy, if you saw the paint you would understand, i am sure in a year or two i will have it repainted....or maybe it is just the crazy artist side of me...who knows...i will probably refrain from the door dings, but thanks for the suggestion..lol |
