sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but is there such a thing as a cheap rear coilover setup for the rear of a swing axle baja bug?i know cheap always sounds bad,but it just seems that it would be an easy conversion.the car will be used on road and mild offroad.any help or experience is greatly appreciated

short answer is no,

but in reality it depends on what you think is cheap, and what kind of car its going on.

thanks for the input.has anyone used foa or empi and do they hold the full weight of the car or are they just helpers?my car is a 66,basically full body car,no back seat or cage,1600 dp.im looking for a little more height than stock without making the ride too unbearable.the typical chop of the rear quarter & open engine, steel fenders.

the empi comment was a joke, don't use them.

and if thats what you have and your not going long travel why are you interested in coil overs? the best way to get what you want out of the rear is to turn the torsions up one spline, dont notch the spring plates and just run a decent shock.

this runs guy hates those empi coils hahahaha every forum he attacks them!!! well im offended!!! i run those on my car and i bend them every trip!!! this to me is a sign of true quality! i dont know about you but i feel they are the best scrap metal on the planet!! i feel if you have the meens of wasting 60 dollers a trip to have the stiffest ride on the planet that will surely lead to bent shock shafts then go for the gold! go for the best, GO EMPI!!! hahahahahahahaha Nope just kidding they are the true meening of JUNK.

one is just about perfect for a stock car, but sometimes the stock bars sag over time because of how old they are, so a second spline is sometimes necessary.

if it has that much camber in the rear even without the engine i would only do one spline.

also for swing axles its ideal to get spring plate retainers.

thanks again for the input, maybe i will try one spline first.i have to testfit the motor anyway to see how much it drops,so i may do that first before i move any splines.

I have pulled three or four sets of these POS's off of cars in the past. Even the cheap Empi ones that RLP likes are better than these.
