Allright guys Very Happy

Thanks for the help, I just wanted to know if the early bumper guards was coming in January 52, since I have 2 splits one from 51 and other from 52 I wanted to know what i should use it in them, it was that.

Guido and 51Kabriolet they know much about this subjects, there is no certain about the real time when they changed for the new ones, they suppose and i suppose it was in January 1952, and there is not registry about this change, so we have to deal with this fact.

Since my cars are both from July, middle of the year there is no such big problem in this, the guard bumper with lips in 51 and the early model in 52.

That ones which have cars from November/Dezember 51 they should care about this, I just wanted to learn, just that Rolling Eyes

kafer69 u should see if your bumper guards are the correct ones Confused u are in that situation above, when they were prepared to change the bumpers guards, maybe they were using both in the end of 51, maybe they had in stock already to introduce in the end of 51, but this is not a big deal.

Thanks for all this information
Best regards
Frank

My split is made on 11th of Jan 1952 and it had newer model guards and I believe those were originals.

Look inside at the crotch coolers of the car!
When the tip of the lever is positioned vertically it means its a 51 and you need the flaired guards!
When the tip of the lever is positioned horizontally it means its a 52 and you need the smooth guards! Normally in this case and also to reduce the draft a backing plate is mounted at the inner wing!!!

Doing some research, and found the OP photos are long gone. Sad

Does anyone have images of the two versions and which is which?

TIA!

Awesome! Thought that was what the 1952 we have should have. Now to find some.

Did not know the other was 1951 only.

They’re 51 and older, dating to the ‘banana’ bumpers. I meant 51 as that’s the last year before they switched.

Ribbed bumper guards were used from ca. mid 1949 to 10.1951, then came the thin smooth style. According to earlier discussions on the topic.

I've seen all types of split bumper guards. Which is correct for a Hoffman / late April 1950 / 11g Beetle?

number 4 and 5 are the closest to correct. what do the brackets on the rear look like?

the symmetrical 1 and 2, and large cast number 3 are not original.

I can take some photos of some extra originals I have if you'd like.
